Esther is the main antagonist of the 2014 Crossed special.
History[]
A young, overweight, and asthmatic boy named Isaac finds himself stuck on a tower next to a barn after he was chased by The Crossed who had killed his father and sister. As soon as he reached the roof of the tower, an elderly man killed himself with a double-barrel shotgun, leaving him with only one shell to use to defend himself. At the bottom of the tower is an elderly Crossed woman who constantly repeats the phrase "cuhm buhn harv ethta" due to her misshapen teeth.
Isaac says that he thinks he used to occasionally see the old woman on his way to school every morning but doesn't remember her name, so he decides to call her "Esther" based on her repeated phrase. Isaac then goes on to say that he's been bullied all his life for his appearance and disabilities, such as his currently broken foot which prevents him from running away. As he watches Esther, he makes note that for some reason, a group of Crossed children assault her and she never does anything about it. In order to pass the time, Isaac makes up a story that Esther was married to "Harv" (the man who shot himself) after the end of world war two and lived on their farm for decades.
As Esther repeatedly walks back and forth from the tower to the barn, Isaac accidentally speaks too loud and nearly gets caught by her. Later that night, Isaac decides to take a risk and calls down to Esther, asking if she wanted some of the chocolate he'd been rationing, though this causes her to yell out her catchphrase again which attracts the gang of Crossed kids over to her again who beat her to the ground and gang rape her. Isaac recognizes three of them as children who used to bully him regularly, one of which was the one who broke his foot. Esther than tries to tell Isaac that she's trying to get inside of her barn which is currently chained up with a padlock.
Later that night, Isaac builds up the courage to go down the steps of the tower while using the shotgun as a crutch. Isaac spots his inhaler out in the grass but he accidentally shoots Esther in the shoulder when she startles him, and the gang of infected children once again come over to Esther questioning where the gunshot came from. When she continues repeating "cuhm buhn harv ethta", they decide to try and torture her for information, but they soon get bored and leave again.
Surprisingly, Esther finds Isaac's inhaler and leaves it at the door to the tower for him while she headed back towards the barn, seemingly showing an ounce of compassion. As soon as Isaac opens the door, Esther heads up the stairs of the tower to grab the keys around Harv's neck and goes back to the barn. Suddenly, the group of Crossed kids spot Isaac and just as they're about to kill him, Esther crashes through the doors of the barn riding a combine harvester and kills the children by running them all over. Isaac is seemingly finally able to escape, though as he walks off he hears either Esther or another Crossed spot him, leaving his fate unclear.

- Esther is possibly one of the very few Crossed who are able to think about their actions ahead of time instead of merely acting in the moment off of their intrusive thoughts.
