Biography[]
Background[]
Not much is known about Esther Mailer and her past, but she was a citizen of Columbia under the rule of Zachary Hale Comstock. It's also unknown if Esther was born in Columbia, or arrived to the city upon it's creation. In the city, Esther became a high ranking member of the city's police force. She was deeply devoted to Comstock and the Founders, and feared the Songbird, a mechanical creature that protected Comstock's child, Elizabeth. Due to her fears and anxiety, she stayed a devoted follower, and feared failure, as it would end with her being killed by the Songbird.
BioShock Infinite[]
When Elizabeth was broken out of her room by Booker DeWitt, Esther was tasked by Comstock and the Founders to reclaim the girl and arrest or kill DeWitt. According to her voxophone, Esther was shown to be anxious and under a great deal of stress, but remained composed as she didn't want to fail Comstock. Ester and her team positioned themselves at the gondola station at Battleship Bay, and Mailer remained at the turnstile entrance so she could spot the two. Pretending to apply makeup, Esther greets Elizabeth by referring to her as "Annabelle", and when corrected by her, shrugs it and walks through the turnstile. It's later revealed in her voxophone that greeting the pair was a ploy to identify them, and to have them arrested.
When Booker attempts to buy a ticket, Mailer and her group ambush the two, and Esther orders her accomplices to get the girl and deal with DeWitt. Esther was killed during the ambush, and her last words was to her accomplices, telling them not to let Elizabeth or Booker get away. After the ambush, Booker can find Esther's voxophone, where she tells of how she and her men were preparing to capture the two at the gondola station.
