“ | Brixton never really lived up to our expectations. But you three, you outperformed your analytics. You don't remember me, do you, Hobbs? You will. It's going to be a hell of a reunion. You're on our radar now. | „ |
~ Eteon director declaring war on Hobbs, Deckard, and Hattie. |
The Eteon Director is the overarching antagonist of the 2019 film Hobbs & Shaw, a spin-off of the Fast & Furious franchise. He is the unseen leader of Eteon, who commands Brixton Lore to retrieve the Snowflake virus to wipe out all of humanity in order to create a better humanity.
He is voiced by Ryan Reynolds (credited as "Champ Nightingale"), who portrayed Agent Locke in the above-mentioned film and also portrayed Deadpool in the X-Men Movie franchise, Jerry Hickfang in The Voices and Clint Briggs in Spirited.
History[]
The Eteon Director is first seen telling Brixton Lore to defeat humanity's weaker half. After the super-soldier meets his defeat, the director later deems that Brixton is not worthy of serving the organization and thus orders the kill switch.
As his body shuts down, Brixton collapses, leading to his watery death. Afterwards, he openly talks to Hobbs, Shaw and Hattie declares that they are on his radar, and that he has a history with Hobbs. He then hangs up after declaring war on them.
The Director is not seen or heard from after this, but he presumably will appear in a potential sequel.
Personality[]
As the leader of Eteon, he has extreme views on and is obsessed with human evolution. He fully dedicates himself to this by pushing his organization to recover the Snowflake Virus by any means necessary and use it to destroy innocent people he deems as "weak". He bears nearly no remorse for his actions and was willing to commit a global genocide against millions of innocent people. He also sees his subordinate Brixton as a mere tool and had him remotely killed after deeming that Brixton no longer useful. He further confirms this by telling Hobbs and the Shaw siblings that Brixton was not satisfactory enough to meet Eteon's goals.
Trivia[]
- The Eteon Director was originally intended to make a full appearance in the film and was going to be played by Keanu Reeves, in what would have been his fourth villainous role after portraying David Griffin.
- Dwayne Johnson himself stated that Keanu Reeves was in talks to play the director of terrorist organization E.T.E.O.N., if things had worked out: "What we did at the end was we left the ominous voice faceless. So, for some time, it was going to be a bit of a John Wick, all disguised. But then we left it there with a few people in mind. Originally, Keanu was the goal. We were talking, and it just didn't feel right creatively. He and I talked, and I totally got it. And it wound up being the best thing, so now we leave that open for the future".
- It is possible that the Eteon Director is someone Hobbs knows judging by his words that he and Hobbs have history together. A possibility could be that the director is none other than Agent Victor Locke, as he is similarly played by Ryan Reynolds.
- As the Eteon Director is never seen onscreen and his voice can sound differently due to being heard through a computer, it's unknown whether the Director is male or female. However, as Ryan Reynolds voiced him and Keanu Reeves was considered to play the part onscreen, it can be inferred that the Eteon Director is male or was intended to be so.
