Biography[]
THE BATTLE OF THE LABYRINTH
Ethan first appears in Antaeus' arena, fighting Percy in order to prove himself and join Kronos's army. Percy tires him out over the course of the fight (as Ethan was in heavy armour) and eventually lost, asking Percy bitterly to kill him and end the fight. However, Percy refused, instead fighting Antaeus and killing him instead. Ethan escaped the arena with Percy, however he declined the offer of assistance and instead escaped into the Labyrinth.
Ethan later returns with two telkhines, as they prepare to resurrect Kronos. Ethan is holding Kronos's scythe during the ceremony. Percy appears and begs him not to go through with his plan. but Ethan rejects him yet again, claiming the Olympians never cared for him and declaring his allegiance to Kronos, which returns him to life. He is not seen after Kronos is resurrected (in Luke's now immortal body), however he is referred as the traitor that the Prophecy spoke of.
THE SWORD OF HADES
Ethan stole the Sword of Hades, with the aid of the Titan Iapetus, from the Underworld, intending to use it to resurrect Titans chained in Tartarus. However, after Iapetus fell into the River Lethe, Ethan fled the scene, being spared yet again by Percy.
THE LAST OLYMPIAN
In between TBOTL and TLO, Ethan was declared Kronos's lieutenant. He first appears on The Princess Andromeda, where he captures Beckendorf, but fails to realize he has rigged the ship with explosives. The boat explodes, but Ethan escapes. He is next seen attacking Percy during battle in his Achilles Heel (by chance or perhaps with the assistance of Nemesis) but Annabeth gets in the way and is stabbed instead. Percy responds by attacking Ethan, denting his helmet and breaking his nose.He is later questioned by Kronos about the fight, but indicates he had no idea he was aiming for Percy's One weak spot.
Ethan serves as Prometheus's guard when he attempts to talk Camp-Half blood into surrendering. During the final battle with Kronos in the Olympian throne room, Ethan escorts Kronos as he destroys the god's thrones. He duels and is defeated by Annabeth, and Percy pleads with him to leave Kronos, pointing out that total destruction of one side is not balanced. Ethan, at the last second, betrays Kronos and redeems himself, attempting to stab Kronos in the neck. However, due to Kronos's invulnerability, the blade bounces off and one of the shards pierces his armour. While dying, he asks Percy to forgive the minor deities and give them the respect they deserve, before Kronos makes a fissure beneath him and Ethan falls thousands of feet to his death.
After his death, Ethan is given a shroud to symbolise his final act of redemption rather than his bad deeds. True to Ethan and Luke's dying wishes, Percy asks the gods to honour all the Gods and not let demigods go unclaimed building them their own individual cabins.
Personality[]
Ethan is a bitter, vengeful young man who is angry at the way he has been treated and seeks respect and allies, even if he searches in the wrong places. He believes that sympathy for the other side in war is dangerous, although he eventually spares Percy the same way Percy spared him. However, even at his darkest, he does not seem to understand the full extend of Kronos's malice, seeming unnerved by some of his worst acts, and eventually realizes his flawed reasoning in time to redeem himself.
