Ethan Sacks is the main antagonist of the 2020 horror thriller film Run Sweetheart Run.
Ethan is a misogynistic fallen angel who disguises himself as a law client to hunt and kill various women and their bloodlines. He then attempts to do the same with a law student named Cherie, threatening to hunt her through the night.
He was portrayed by Pilou Asbæk, who also played Euron Greyjoy from Game of Thrones, Wafner from Overlord, Cyrus/Nemesis II in Samaritan, Owen Paddock in Hidden Strike and Kordax in Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom.
Biography[]
Past[]
Ethan was originally an angel whose job was to protect and guide humanity. Instead, Ethan decided to use this position to promote patriarchy and make sure men stay in charge throughout history, and did so by pillaging and destroying societies, even wiping out entire bloodlines and matriarchies. After falling from his divine status, he took disguise on earth eons later as an entrepeneur named Ethan Sacks and became a client of a lawyer named James Fuller. He then began having James set up various women to be marked as "tithes" for Ethan, so he can hunt and kill them and erase their bloodlines, doing this with countless women.
Run Sweetheart Run[]
For another tithe, James calls his secretary, Cherie Vida, saying that she double-booked him and asks Cherie to go to a dinner for him with Ethan, which she accepts. Ethan then meets Cherie and invites her into his extravagant home, talking with her briefly about astronomy, before taking her out to dinner and getting to know her. However, he abruptly get furious when a dog starts barking at him, apologizing to Cherie for his outburst and explaining that due to being bit by a dog as a child and getting 48 stiches he is now "officially a cat person". He then takes her roller skate dancing and invites her to stay the night, which she agrees. However, when she enters the house, Ethan breaks the fourth wall and gestures for the camera to not come into the house before he closes the door behind him. He then brutally attacks Cherie behind closed doors before she escapes into the streets and shouts for help, with Ethan trailing behind her.
When Cherie ends up getting arrested, she meets a woman who she discovers had a bestfriend who had a similar encounter with the same man before ending up dead, who urges her to hide and find the First Lady. Ethan then visits her cell and psychologically tortures her by saying he's gonna play a game with her, in which he will hunt her throughout the night, giving her a head start by paying her bail before leaving. When Cherie finds shelter in Fuller's apartment, Cherie looks on Fuller's laptop and discovers that this is not an isolated incident; Fuller has set up dozens women (Jessica, Kristin, Jill, Cathy, Temple, Karena, Bridget, Tasha, Mindy, Rachel, Natasha, Jennifer, Jessica, Ninni, Summer, Cassandra, Jean, Stormy, etc.) to be hunted and killed by Ethan in various romantic dinners caused by "double bookings". Cherie then abandons the apartment and goes to a gas station to get tampons. However, Ethan finds her there and violently attacks her before she knocks him out with a brick and escapes to her ex's house, Trey.
However, Ethan finds her at the house and brutally massacres everyone there before sadistically decapitating and devouring Trey in front of Cherie and hunting her even more before being run over by a car and following her blood somewhere else, which Cherie tricked him into doing by throwing her bloody tampon onto a moving truck. However, Ethan then finds her at a church by shapeshifting as a priest he attacked before horrifying her with his true monstrous form and choking her to near death before the priest stabs him and helps Cherie escape once again before Ethan attacks and kills the priest, leading to Cherie finding refuge by a group of party girls who take her with them in their car as well as getting the location and number of the First Lady. However, when Cherie starts bleeding, Ethan finds her and violently crashes the car and kills the group of girls before brutalizing Cherie again. However, a dog intervenes and seems to be able to sense Ethan's malevolence and antagonizes him, which provokes him to leave.
Death[]
Ethan then finds her again at the Santa Monica Pier, brutalizing and taunting her before pinning her with metal rods by her hands to columns to string her up and attempts to rape her before its revealed that the whole thing was a trick set up by the First Lady to lure Ethan out and kill him. Ethan then tried to kill Cherie but is burned repeatedly by the sunlight through numerous windows broken by allies of the First Lady. Ethan is then seen painfully crawling away in the sunlight while bleeding black from his eyes while Cherie taunts him and proclaims his nights of hunting women are over. The First Lady then steps out and lights the trail of Ethan's blood on fire, catching up to him and burning him slowly to death, ending his reign of terror once and for all.
Personality[]
Ethan is incredibly psychopathic, as well as a barbaric misogynist. He uses his charisma to appear as an affable law client to his victims, often taking them out on dates before taking them to his home, brutally attacking and slaughtering them and their bloodlines. He seems to have a subtle influence on men, as is proclaimed by the friend of one of his victims, as well as him having contacts in the city, mainly James R. Fuller, Cherie's boss. He is also incredibly sadistic, regularly taunting Cherie and psychologically torturing her while slaughtering people and beating her, even laughing after brutally devouring Trey in front of her.
Trivia[]
- Despite being a fallen angel, Ethan bares a lot of similarities to a vampire, given the rabid way he attacks his victims, even biting the head off of one of them.
