~ Eustace's prayer before eating. |
Eustace Wick is a minor antagonist of the Rusty Quill horror podcast The Magnus Archives, serving as the main antagonist of Mag 58: Trail Rations. He was a cannibal who lived in the United States in 1845. He posed as a guide for the Carlisle couple trying to Willamette Valley and tried to eat them.
Appearance[]
Eustace was described as a short and squat with broad shoulders. His skin was tanned from the sun, and he had a graying beard. His most notable trait was his teeth, which were unusually healthy and full. He showed them off by grinning frequently.
Personality[]
Eustace Wick was a jovial and cheerful man. He seemed very outgoing and friendly, although he wasn't particularly good at hiding his intentions, and it wasn't difficult to see his demented interior. He took a twisted sort of delight in eating humans, and showed no empathy when killing, even towards those he had been travelling with for weeks. He valued consuming flesh over everything, including his own well-being.
Biography[]
According to research by the Magnus Institute, a priest named Horatio Wick lived in Massachusetts and fell out with colleagues over the Sacrament of the Eucharist. He apparently drowned shortly thereafter. However, Jonathen Sims claims that it is possible this is the same person as Eustace Wick, considering his prayer before eating.
In 1845, Eustace Wick met the Carlisles, a couple on the Oregan Trail trying to find a way over the Rockies. Eustace claimed to be the best guide in the area and Benjamin eagerly hired him for a low price, although his wife was more suspicious. The group began the journey, which got more difficult as the weather became colder. Eventually, Eustace broke the cart, forcing them to stay in a cave. There, Eustace murdered Benjamin, but before he could eat him, was shot and killed by Benjamin's wife.
Trivia[]
- According to the show's head writer Jonathen Sims, Mag 58: Trail Rations was based on the film Ravenous from 1999, meaning Eustace Wick is most likely based on Colonel Ives.
- Eustace Wick is strongly implied to be an avatar of the Flesh.
