Child, you hold the adolla burst...come with me, and we will open the door.
~ The Evangelist to a Baby Shō Kusakabe.

The Evangelist is the overarching antagonist of the 2015-2022 dark fantasy manga series Fire Force and its 2019 anime television series adaptation of the same name. The woman known as the Evangelist was responsible for the manipulation of the various cultures of the world since ancient times and the shaping of human history. Her motives remain unclear, although it is known that she sought to destroy the world in a sea of purifying flame by utilizing the Eight Pillars who possessed a connection to the underworld Adolla.

In order to help fulfill her goal, the Evangelist cultivated a religious order dedicated to worshipping her and bringing about her apocalyptic dream that was known as the White-Clad. The White-Clad worked to sow chaos across civilization and gather the Eight Pillars so that their God could finally destroy the world.

Appearence[]

The Evangelist is a big female person in a hooded light colored robe that hides the majority of her facial features besides her mouth. Strangely, the Evangelist seems to have two horns at the top of her head, making her hood stick out, giving her a devilish appearance. The symbol of the Sun God around her neck and a sun-like structure appears to float behind it. While the robes hide The Evangelist's figure, it is confirmed that it is female. When her face is partly revealed, her eye sockets and mouth appear empty with star-like sparks and cosmic space inside. In Episode 22 in the anime, she seems to be able to control the gold rings resembles the sun behind her back and above her head.

when her true form is revealed at the end of the manga after she uses Haumea as her vessel, she is a largely composed of a black substance and has three eyes.

Personality[]

Very little is known about the Evangelist's personality because she does not say many words, instead of this she speaks through a spokesperson, but from her actions and motives, one can know that she is someone who wants chaos, destruction and suffering of living beings, as soon as she sees Temple begging for help, she without thinking throws a bug at him that ends up turning him into a infernal, showing that people's problems or their lives don't matter to them in the slightest, she also cares little or nothing of the White-Clad members, mentally controlling them or using them as her vessel as she does with Haumea.

She is also capable of manipulating the population by making them believe in the existence of gods, and has been doing this since the beginning of humanity.

History[]

Next to nothing is known of the woman known as the Evangelist, including her past and motives. She originated from Adolla, a realm of Endless Black Flames that would later be known as Hell. Her alleged goal was to merge Adolla with the planet Earth, an overlapping that would burn the Earth to a crisp and terraform it into a second sun. For whatever reason, she manipulated the course of human history by showing humanity visions of Adolla, shaping the cultures and faiths of the world since ancient times. The Evangelist was responsible for the concepts of good and evil and Heaven and Hell that most cultures shared. It could even be said that God Himself was a figment conjured by the Evangelist.

Eventually, the Evangelist was nearly able to enact her dream of merging the two realms, however, the level of destruction failed to completely obliterate the Earth and left vestiges of human society behind. Along the Chinese Peninsula, a tear in space opened that served as a direct connection between Earth and Adolla which could only be accessed by those from Adolla. Shortly after the failed attempt that was later known as the Great Cataclysm, the Evangelist emerged from the tear in space and was immediately greeted by a survivor of the apocalypse who believed her to be God. The man named Tempe begged "God" to bless him after the tragic loss he had incurred. Using a bug originating from Adolla, the Evangelist turned Tempe into an Infernal and left.

With the passage of time and the discovery of the rest of the pillars, The Evangelist was able to begin the cataclysm again, an even more powerful cataclysm with the ability to alter reality and destroy the entire world, turning the earth into a sun, This plan managed to work, but Shinra Kusakabe with the power of Mari and Sho together, recreated the entire world and changed the laws, which caused the evangelist to get angry and Shinra ended up eliminating her.

Powers and Abilities[]

The full scope of the Evangelist's abilities remain unclear, although she is incredibly powerful, presumably more so than even the "Destroyer God" Benimaru Shinmon.

  • Blindness Inducement: Her presence itself was so radiant that gazing upon her was like gazing upon the sun itself. As such, the eyes of anyone who looked upon her would begin burning excruciatingly to the point that permanent loss of sight could occur. Leonard Burns and Joker, both exceedingly powerful men in their own right, both loss sight in one eye permanently after witnessing the Evangelist. The followers of the Evangelist would often wear blindfolds as a result of her radiance. Even Demon-level Infernals were susceptible to having their eyes burned.
  • Immortality: Although her exact age remains unclear, the Evangelist had been alive since at least the Great Cataclysm two hundred and fifty years ago. The Woman in Black speculated that the Evangelist had lived since the dawn of human civilization in ancient times, it is also said by Giovanni that the sun was actually a planet before a cataclysm caused by the Evangelist converted it into a star, meaning she is probably even older than the solar system.
  • Abstract Existence: It is revealed in the last arc of the series, that in reality, the Evangelist is not a physical being, it is actually the human collective unconsciousness given form, all the ideas and perceptions of humanity, are part of the Evangelist.
  • Power Bestowal: By forging an Adolla Link with a person, the Evangelist could drastically increase that individual's power by giving them a portion of her own power. The power leant by the Evangelist was referred to as "Grace." Both Shō Kusakabe and Shinra Kusakabe had control over time itself when blessed with Grace and were almost unrivalled in terms of raw power. The Evangelist had the ability to retract her Grace at anytime without warning, simply stripping the blessed of her power. The power could only be bestowed upon an Adolla Burst wielder.
  • Precognition: According to her followers and the likes of the First Pillar, the Evangelist had the ability to foresee future events. The exact specifications of her power such as how far into the future she could see is unknown. She was able to correctly predict the emergence of the Third Pillar Shō Kusakabe and the Fifth Pillar Inca Kasugatani before their awakening and knew that Shō and his older brother Shinra would one day meet long before they actually did.
