Duke Everlue is the main antagonist of the Fairy Tail arc, Daybreak. He is a corrupt noble with a long list of deeds under his belt, and the former contract holder of the Celestial Spirit Virgo.

Everlue is voiced by Katsui Taira in Japanese who voiced Aria in the same series, and Christopher Ayres in English dub, who voiced Frieza from Dragon Ball Z Kai.

History

34 years prior to the events of the series, Everlue kidnapped famous writer Kemu Zaleon, and forced him to write a novel where Everlue was the main protagonist. Such an act revolted Kemu who refused. Instead, Everlue locked him away and forced him to write. What Everlue didn't know was Kemu was actually a mage, Zekua Melon, who used magic to write the book as Daybreak with a hidden meaning in it. Toiling away for 3 years, he returned to his son, Kaby, who was openly disguised by what his father wrote. Ashamed, Kemu cut his dominate hand off, never to write again.

Decades later, Kaby put a job request for 2,000,000 Jewel to burn Daybreak. Lucy, Natsu, and Happy took the request and were able to get into Everlue's manor. Upon finding the book, Lucy was shocked to see it was written by her favorite author. Despite Natsu wanting to burn it, Lucy wanted to keep it for herself, thinking something must have been wrong. Everlue, having used a crystal ball, saw everything and was worried it might have evidence to arrest him. Sending his Celestial Spirit Virgo and the Vanish Brothers, he ordered the three to attack the intruders. While Natsu fought the trio, Lucy escaped into the sewers, and used a pair of Gale Force Reading Glasses to speed read Daybreak, Lucy discovered the truth behind the book. Everlue tracked her down below, and attacked her. Disgusted, Lucy shouted at Everlue, having learned the truth about the book's origins.

To torture her more, Everlue summoned Virgo, who had been defeated by Natsu, and because he was holding onto the spirit, he was brought to Everlue's location too. Lucy summoned one of her spirits, Cancer the Crab, who defeated Everlue. After this, Lucy gives the book to Kaby, revealing the book could rearange the words and letters to its true form: Dear Kaby.

It was mentioned that Everlue was arrested for his crimes, and because of this, his contract with Virgo was voided out. An unspecified time later, Virgo appeared to Happy who asked the cat to give her key to Lucy.
