You killed my babies! Now... you die!
~ Evil Sam after watching Sam kill his minions in the Colosseum.

The Evil Serious Sam Clone is the main antagonist of Serious Sam: Next Encounter.

As the name suggests, he is an imperfect clone of Sam "Serious" Stone created by Mental. As soon as Mental left him alone for a short while, the Evil Sam used his time machine to cause mischief in ancient Rome, China and finally the lost city of Atlantis.

Appearance[]

Despite being a clone, Evil Sam could not look more different from the original. Whereas Sam Stone is a large, muscular man with short, black hair the Evil Sam is remarkably short, thin and has long red hair. He also seems to have poor eyesight, as seen by the large glasses he wears. The only thing that provides any visual similarities to the original Sam are that Evil Sam wears the same clothes as him, even down to their size as they are far too large for his small stature.

The Sirian Darklord that the Evil Sam pilots for the final battle is a massive mech that is grey and light-blue in color. The control system of the Darklord is its bird-like head and uses an energy field to draw in weapons and armor from its surroundings.

Personality[]

Evil Sam enjoys bringing mischief everywhere he goes. By the way Mental talks to him at the beginning, the events of the game are not the first time that he has caused trouble for his master by going somewhere or using something he isn't supposed to. He considers himself to be one of Mental's most powerful creations, calling himself the "Ultimate Warrior of Evil" when the original Sam finally gets his hands on the clone.

Oddly enough, Evil Sam seems to have some form of attachment to the creatures he sends after the original Sam, calling them "my babies" and becoming enraged when watching Sam kill them in the Colosseum.

Biography[]

The beginning of the game shows Mental talking to Evil Sam from his throne, telling him that he will be going away for a while and not to go near his Time-Lock while he's gone. Evil Sam nodded and agreed not to mess around with it, only to jump into the time machine as soon as Mental left. This disruptiion alerted the scientists on modern day Earh, sending Sam Stone to ancient Rome to investigate the anomaly.

The two Sams first met when he gets teleported straight into the Colosseum, where Evil Sam sent waves of monsters after Sam. Watching his original counterpart slaughter his minions made Evil Sam furious and decided that it was time for Sam to die, only for the scientists back in modern times to beam Sam away because they noticed they made a mistake with the initial teleport. Once Sam got back to the Colosseum a second time and fought another wave of enemies, Evil Sam sent the Diablotaur into the arena. Once the cyborg behemoth fell, Evil Sam ran into another Time-Lock and fled to feudal China.

The original Sam followed Evil Sam into the Time-Lock and ended up having to fight his way past Mental's minions from the Xifenkou section of the Great Wall through the desert around Dunhuang and all the way to the imperial palace. Once there, Sam found a second Time-Lock guarded by a three-headed cyborg Hydra, but never actually encountered Evil Sam again. He had already used the portal to travel to the next location: the legendary Atlantis.

Sirian Darklord

The Sirian Darklord, the mech that Evil Sam pilots for the final battle.

Heading into the icy caves and the temples of Atlantis, it turned out that the reason for their immensely advanced technology is that the city was built on top of a Sirian mothership. The throne room of the Atlantean royalty provided a passage way into the Sirian vessel beneath. Evil Sam had already arrived in the ship's engine core chamber and found the Sirian Darklord, a powerful weapon of mass destruction that combined Sirian technology with the spirit of an elite Sirian warrior. While its purpose was that of a last resort to protect the mothership, when Sam entered the core chamber the Evil Sam took control of the Darklord to get rid of his original once and for all.

The fight between the Sams was fierce, as the Sirian Darklord was equipped with several of the most powerful weapons the Sirians developed and was immune to damage while the head was still connected to its other components. Sam had to shoot off all the armor and weapon pieces before he could make any real progress towards victory, though the Darklord could replace any lost parts after a brief time window. With enough damage sustained, the Sirian Darklord fell apart and crashed onto one of the walkways of the chamber, where Sam finally got his hands on that little clone of his. Sam spanked the Evil Sam for his bad behavior and took him to the Time-Lock on board the mothership so that scientists back home could take a look at him.

But as soon as the two Sams left for modern times a cloning mechanism activated that created more Evil Sam, which gleefully jumped around the halls of the Sirian ship.

Trivia[]

  • The Evil Serious Sam Clone is the first villain in the Serious Sam series, besides Mental himself, to be directly involved with the story of the game he appears in.
  • The Evil Serious Sam Clone is one of only a few of Mental's servants to survive his encounter with Sam (the others being Director Doppler and Cecil the Dragon).
