The Exchange were supporting antagonists in the Star Wars: Legends continuity, appearing in a number of video games, books, and other media. The Exchange was a galactic crime syndicate involved in a number of illegal activities. These included slave trading, running spice, trafficking weapons, bounty hunting, and attempting to dominate the galaxy. They were active from about 4,000 BBY up to about 3,627 BBY.
It operated as a number of semi-independent cells on different worlds, with crime bosses running operations on each world. These bosses reported to sector chiefs, who in turn reported to a sector chief that operated as the head of the Exchange. Overall command of the organization fell to an entity known as Compeer.
Both Revan and the Jedi Exile Meetra Surik came into conflict with the organization at various points during their quests, and both acted in various ways to damage the organization, slowing it down. Additionally the Sith destruction of Taris upon the orders of Darth Malak also put a major dent in the organization during the Jedi Civil War. However, this failed to put an end to the organization, which was still active three hundred years after Revan and Surik's quests.
Sometime before the rise of the Galactic Empire, the Hutts stopped tolerating the Exchange and began a galaxy wide conflict with them. As a result the organization had been defunct for centuries by the time Palpatine declared a new order.
