Expósito is a minor antagonist and boss in the indie game Blasphemous. He is the infant son of a witch who guards the Embossed Mask of Crescente.
Biography[]
Expósito was born to a woman sentenced to death for witchcraft. Before her execution, she asked the inquisitors to blindfold her child so he would not witness her burn. They did as they were told and tied a blindfold around the baby as the woman was burnt to her stake. In her last words, she asked a kind soul to build a figure in her image and size so her child would not miss her. The mysterious person applied to her request and built a large wooden wicker woman in the mother's figure. Upon being placed in its arms, the baby stopped crying and peacefully fell asleep. The Miracle was merciful once again.
The Penitent One encounters Expósito at the end of the Sleeping Canvases. He is encountered in the background of a long bridge overseeing the top of the area, held up by the wicker woman. The actual boss is not Expósito, but rather a minion he summons to protect him, a large serpent with a humanoid face and a scorpion-like stinger for a tail. The snake can only be damaged by striking its head or a special segment in its torso that is slightly darker than the other segments. The snake attacks by spewing poison, flames, or disc-shaped projectiles from its mouth or by attempting to bite the Penitent One or stinging him with its tail. It can also loop around the arena while drooling venom from its mouth.
Expósito himself can unleash one devastating attack during the snake's attacks as well. When he cries, a circle will appear under the current location of the Penitent One, slowly enclosing around the center. If the Penitent One does not move away from the circle once it reaches the center, Expósito will grab the Penitent One and rip him in half, causing an instant defeat. Upon defeating the snake, it explodes and the area below the bridge catches fire. The wicker woman collapses from the flames, taking Expósito down with it.
