The Eye-Eating Killer (real name unknown) is the main antagonist of the Uruguayan slasher film The Last Matinee. The killer is a serial and mass murderer in Montevideo with a signature sick obsession with cutting out the eyes of people he murders, to place them in jars and later eat them. The killer traps numerous people in a move theater to pick off one by one, leaving the survivors to fight for their lives.

He's portrayed by Ricardo Islas.

Biography[]

Nothing is revealed about the killer's past, not even his name. Before the events of the film, he terrorized Montevideo in 1993 and was wanted by police from his murder spree, where he killed civilians across the city and stole their eyes so he could eat them. Whenever he wasn't eating eyes, he stored them in jars to preserve for later, carrying them with him even during his murder spree. For his latest massacre, he snick into an old movie theater, where an engineering student named Ana was working her father's shift for a horror screening, because he was sick and she needed to study for testing. The killer goes between the audience and people around the rest of the theater to pick them off one by one. He first impales an elderly man's skull, which the audience doesn't notice. Although he fails to kill the ticket taker, he does cut the throat of the security guard, Mauricio, giving him the opportunity to lock the exits of the theater. However, he fails to kill Ana, as she locked the door to the screening room so she could study.

The killer returns to the gallery to impale Maite and Goni, two teens who were making out, through their mouths with a cut of rebar. The killer than stabs another couple to death, first Horacio in the bathroom after beating him up, then Gabriela when she's in the gallery again. The whole time, as the remaining people in the theater realize the danger they're in, Ana doesn't and focuses on the glitches with the projector. When she finally leaves the room, she sees all the victims arranged in the seats, all missing their eyes. As the killer dispatches the remaining captives, starting with a man named Hugo and a teenage boy named Esteban, angels tries to stop him by knocking him out cold with a fire extinguisher. Ana, Angela, and a little boy named Tomás try to flee, only to realize the doors are locked and the killer stole the keys from a dead Mauricio.

Ana stabs the killer's eye with sharp glass to stop him from killing Tomás, which the killer compulsively chews on. The three survivors hide in the projection room, but the killer knocks the door down. Angela throws a pile of tapes at the killer so Ana and Tomás can escape, but the killer murders her by slamming the door of the projector onto her head repeatedly. Ana makes Tomás wait at the entrance to the theater while she recovers the rebar still impaling Goni and Maite. When the killer jumps them both again, he stabs An and severely wounds her. But refusing to let the killer get to Tomás, Ana take the rebar and impales the killer through his heart. He dies smashing the glass jar of eyeballs he stole on the floor, scattering them everywhere. Tomás is seen gawking at them in horror as Ana tries to hug him and settle him down.
