Ezalia Joule is a former major antagonist in Mobile Suit Gundam SEED.
She is the mother of ZAFT Red Coat member Yzak Joule. She is originally from Martius City, home of one of ZAFT's primary arms manufacturers Martius Arsenals. She sided with Patrick Zala's radical beliefs throughout the first war, prior to her eventual change of heart.
She was voiced by Kotono Mitsuishi in Japanese and Alison Matthews in the Ocean Group dub and Cindy Robinson in the NYAV Post dub in English.
Personality[]
Being a supporter of Patrick Zala's radical views, Ezalia Joule is against every last Natural and is faithful to the success of his operations.
Despite her genocidal views, she does seem to care about her son and the Coordinators.
Eventually, she would drop her hateful views and join her former moderate rivals and their tolerant stances.
Biography[]
First Alliance-PLANT War[]
Ezalia Joule is first seen during a meeting of all the Supreme Council members where she is seen debating with the more moderate elements on whether to strike back, arguing that the Earth Forces will get stronger if they don't do anything soon.
Clyne Faction's Defection[]
After the Clynes and their allies defect from ZAFT, Ezalia would help the radical party hunt down the moderates and at one point delivers her own speech.
Battle of Boaz - Operation Peacemaker[]
She would witness the Earth Alliance's Peacemaker Force launch its nuclear warheads at Boaz; after that, she delivers a speech condemning the Naturals and ends it with a rallying call to fight back.
Later, she would see her more moderate rivals stop the attack on the PLANTs with their own methods. When Lacus tries to reason with the Earth Forces, Ezalia questions the former's methodology. After that, ZAFT unleashes its ultimate superweapon GENESIS.
Second Battle of Jachin Due[]
Before the battle, she sees her son, and they converse before going back to their respective battle stations. Like everyone else in ZAFT, she is oblivious to Rau Le Creuset's more ulterior motives.
After Patrick Zala's death, Eileen Canaver leads a squad of ZAFT moderates in coup d'etat. Ezalia was one of the radicals arrested.
Second Alliance-PLANT War[]
At some point of time (Not after C.E.75), Ezalia was presumably released, although overall whereabouts still unknown. Her son is still in ZAFT, now a White Coat.
Foundation Conflict[]
By the events of the Foundation Conflict, Ezalia would turn to the side of her more moderate counterparts, taking on their views. She would be onboard the Eternal with Eileen Canaver greeting the boarded Chairman Walter De Lament and the PLANT Intelligence Division following their evacuation amidst Commander Hari Jagannath's Foundation-backed usurpation of the PLANTs, under views of which consisted of renewed ZAFT extremism. While everyone was discussing their next moves, she subtly eyed at Yzak and Shiho Hahnenfuss, possibly trying to show her thoughts of a possible chemistry between the two.
