The Face Dogs is an antagonist in the 2017 light novel Otherside Picnic and its 2021 anime adaptation. It serves as one of the two antagonists of Volume 1, Chapter 3, alongside Monkey Shines.
One of the Otherside Entities that Sorawo Kamikoshi and Toriko Nishina encountered in the eponymous location, the Face Dogs is infamous for being a relentless pursuer, who will stop at nothing to target any outsiders who wander the Otherside and drive anyone insane who sees it.
Appearance[]
The Face Dogs looks to the unaided eye as a mass of white, hazily defined egg-shaped faces floating in the night, their eye sockets and mouths sunken and black.
In reality, as seen through Sorawo's blue eye, it actually looks like a cow with many legs sprouting out of it, like a caterpillar. A absurdly huge cow head with a floating blue-light ring is located in the centre of the very top of its body. What seemed to be the creature's eyes and mouths are really black specks on a white backdrop.
Personality[]
The Face Dogs is known for its violent protectiveness, as shown when the Entity relentlessly pursues any visitors who visit the Otherside, including Sorawo, Toriko, and the soldiers of Palehorse Battalion. It is known to drive people insane from seeing its otherworldly appearance.
Background[]
The first time Sorawo and Toriko saw the Face Dogs on the Otherside was at night, while they were being pursued by the Walking Gallows and Horned Man. They ran across the Entity again after being rescued by the Palehorse Battalion. Using her right eye, Sorawo identified the creature's actual shape and used an M14 EBR rifle to blast it in the head, killing the creature.
Trivia[]
- A simulacra phenomena, notably pareidolia, in which the human brain is allegedly wired to interpret three dots as faces, is conveyed by the pattern of black spots on the Face Dogs.
