The Fake Bowsers are major antagonists in the Super Mario franchise.
They are members of the Koopa Troop, mostly common enemies, who are transformed into monsters identical to Bowser. They are recurring threats in Super Mario games and are usually turned into their normal selves when defeated by Mario.
Like the real Bowser, they are voiced by Kenny James.
History[]
Super Mario Bros.[]
Seven fake Bowsers are positioned in each of the initial seven castles. They are actually just normal enemies disguised as Bowser, as demonstrated by defeating a fake Bowser with fireballs.
Super Mario Bros.: The Lost Levels[]
The fake Bowsers return in this game. Additionally, a fake version of Bowser's Brother is encountered as a boss in world D-4.
Super Mario Advance 4: Super Mario Bros. 3[]
A fake Bowser makes an appearance as a boss in the World-e level Classic World 1-4 of Super Mario Advance 4: Super Mario Bros. 3. If the fake Bowser is defeated by fireballs, it reveals itself to be a Goomba.
Super Mario 3D Land[]
The fake Bowsers make their grand return in Super Mario 3D Land as Tail Bowsers.
Similar to the fake Bowsers in Super Mario Bros., Tail Bowsers are battled on bridges at the end of castle levels in Super Mario 3D Land. They leap all over the stage and breathe enormous fireballs as they attack. World 1-Castle is home to the first Tail Bowser, while World 5-Castle is home to the second, which similarly attacks and destroys columns with its spiky, striped tail. The only way to defeat a Tail Bowser is to flip the switch at the end of the bridge, which causes the Bowser to fall into the lava and then bounce back up to reveal its actual form—a Goomba in World 1 and a Magikoopa in World 5—along with a Super Leaf.
In the post-game, the Tail Bowsers are replaced by Dry Bowser.
Mario & Sonic at the Sochi 2014 Olympic Winter Games[]
One of Mario and Sonic's dream events at the 2014 Olympic Winter Games in Sochi, Mario's Figure Skating Spectacular, has a Tail Bowser. With fireballs aimed at the teammates, it follows them across a massive bridge that is collapsing. When the team presses four buttons simultaneously, the Tail Bowser transforms into a Super Leaf and a Goomba before falling into lava.
Super Mario Run[]
Normal fake Bowsers return in Super Mario Run at the end of each world. Each encounter with a fake Bowser gets harder along the way as different obstacles, such as fire bars and fire chains, are added to the fights.
Super Mario Party Jamboree[]
- Main article: Impostor Bowser
Kamek transforms a Toady into an Impostor Bowser.
Trivia[]
- Fake Bowsers are the only instances where a Buzzy Beetle and a Bullet Bill can be defeated by fireballs due to them being disguised as Bowser, who is vulnerable to fireballs.
