The Fake Edema Ruh Troupe is an evil organization in The Wise Man's Fear by Patrick Rothfuss. They killed a real Ruh Troupe and took their place. They are a group of bandits who kidnapped and raped two young girls.
Background[]
Alleg was adopted as a member of a real Edema Ruh Troupe which had Maer Alveron's patronage. He learned all of their customs and secrets. His bandit group then killed the Ruh, disguised themselves as a real Ruh troupe, and took their writ of patronage. They planned on using this disguise to infiltrate villages to steal money and kidnap girls.
At one point, they infiltrated a village. They lured two young girls, Krin and Ellie, and kidnaped them. They used the girls as sex slaves, and frequently raped them. Two members of the group, Kete and Anne, were women, but still assisted in the rape.
In the Story[]
Kvothe encountered the group on his way back from Haert. Kvothe introduced himself as a Ruh member. They took him in for unknown reasons, presumably to help them masquerade as Ruh better. However, even thought they used an accurate Ruh greeting, Kvothe knew them to be fake.
Kvothe poisoned their stew before dinner. The group brought out the girls and offered to let Kvothe have sex with one of them. Kvothe demanded to take both of them and they agreed.
In his tent, Kvothe gave the girls an antidote to the poison. He waited until all of the bandits were sick from the poison. He then hunted them down. Many of them fled through the woods, but Kvothe tenaciously chased them to the bitter end and killed them. Kete attempted to plea to him that it was them or her, but Kvothe was not dissuaded and killed her anyway.
The last one to die was Alleg. Kvothe gave him a fatal stab wound in the belly. Kvothe burned a broken circle into their flesh to mark them as fake Ruh. He let Krin burn the circle into Alleg while he was still alive. Kvothe left Alleg to die slowly, and even left him water so it would take Alleg longer to die.
Stories[]
The story of how Kvothe rescued two girls from bandits became famous. The most famous version is that Kvothe rescued two princesses from a group of ogres. Kvothe was happy that no story claimed that the bandits were real Edema Ruh.
