Fake Kiryu is a supporting antagonist in the Like a Dragon series.
Biography[]
Yakuza 2/Kiwami 2[]
Fake Kiryu, real name unknown, first appears in the game Yakuza 2 during the substory The Legendary Dragon.
Fake Kiryu was originally an ordinary thug who happened to bear a surprising resemblance to Kazuma Kiryu, and would come up with a plan with his friend where he would dress up as Kiryu and his friend would pretend to be Kiryu's deceased friend, Shinji.
Their plan would be to team up and intimidate people around Kamurocho, using Kiryu's status as a way to intimidate people into giving them money. This would work for a time with the two easily scamming money out of teenagers. Soon the two would bump into the real Kazuma Kiryu and they tried to intimidate money out of him but decided to let him go, neither of them realizing who he really was.
Later, Kiryu runs into Fake Kiryu outside of the Jewel hostess club, Fake Kiryu and his friend had run up a large bill of ¥98,000 at the hostess club but refused to pay, instead choosing to intimidate the manager to not have to pay. The real Kiryu would step in to try and make the two pay with Fake Kiryu fighting him even though Kiryu intimidated him.
Kiryu easily beat the two up and revealed that he was the real Kazuma Kiryu and told the two to stop impersonating him otherwise he'd beat them up again. Once Kiryu left, the Jewel hostess club manager would force the two to pay the ¥98,000 bill, much to their dismay.
Powers and Abilities[]
This "Kiryu" is more bark than he can really bite, considering he isn't the actual Dragon of Dojima, of course.
In the original Yakuza 2, it's not clear which moveset he reuses, but it's likely just one of the regular street enemies' movesets. He is fought alongside the fake Shinji Tanaka, who has much less health.
In the 2017 remake, Yakuza Kiwami 2, he reuses the Dragon Engine's watered down version of Rikiya Shimabukuro's moveset from Yakuza 3, likely due to Rikiya's stance being just faintly similar (but still, not entirely close) to Kiryu's Dragon of Dojima stance. The fight remains largely the same as the original, with the fake Shinji Tanaka as a secondary enemy for the real Kiryu to defeat.
