Opal's Family are the main antagonists of the Adult Swim short OPAL made by Jack Stauber.
The Family is made up of 4 people: the father The Mirror Man, the Mother, the Grandfather and finally Clare, also known as the eponymous Opal. Clare's family members are all very distant and neglectful towards her, causing Clare to fantasise about being the little girl on the "OPAL'S BURGERS" billboard across the street, who despite being a fictional, soulless mascot, still has it better than Clare.
Grandpa, the Mirror Man and Mom are all played by Jack Stauber, who created the short.
Personality[]
Each of these members of the Family except Clare are the antagonists of the short, in fact, each of them exploits their daughter and granddaughter in their games, the grandfather for example exploits Opal to help him commit suicide by smoking many packs of cigarettes, plus the grandfather is blind and uses the TV to stay away from others ignoring them and their problems, he kills himself by smoking and probably also by eating as he is very overweight, his grandfather also forces Clare to give him cigarettes but Clare often hides them to prevent him from smoking.
The Father also called Mirror Man is a narcissist who closed himself off thinking only about his appearance after being mocked for his appearance by colleagues and friends, he therefore closed himself in his room to improve his appearance to meet the standards of beauty of society. the father uses Clare to insult her and mock her openness to magnify his EGO and feel more beautiful, the father was probably also abused by his wife, for a second you can see his horribly disfigured face and it is probably one of the reasons for the who wears make-up and grooms himself in a disappointing way without taking any interest in Clare.
The Mother, on the other hand, is extremely ill and drugged, she uses her daughter Clare as moral support for a past accident, however she doesn't really care about her daughter, she shows that she wants to have a daughter to look after but like the other members of the Family she is too blinded by her problems to care about his own daughter. The Family is too busy with their own individual problems not thinking about anything or anyone else but themselves, so no one in the family is really connected and each of them exploits Clare in some way. None of the family will ever see their daughter's face, her grandfather is blind, her father is blinded by mirrors and her mother is blinded by drugs.
Biography[]
