“ | Humans - Homo sapiens. Us. We have always pushed the boundaries as explorers, pioneers, trailblazers. And now, Far Zenith is taking the next leap into the future. That's why we're proud to have resurrected the Odyssey. What our governments abandoned in orbit. Far Zenith will actualize in less than a decade. But that's only the beginning. When the ship is complete, we will send the Odyssey and her crew where no one's gone before… …the Sirius system. There, we'll create humanity's first off-world colony. The Odyssey may take 300 years to reach it, but when we look up at the night sky, we'll know they're on their way. And in the words of our founder the late Peter Tshivhumbe. "the truest form of immortality is--" | „ |
~ Osvald Daalgard on presenting the organization. |
The Far Zenith, also known as the FZ, are the main antagonists of the Horizon franchise.
Founded by Peter Tshivhumbe, it is an Old World think tank organization that comprises of seventy-seven members of the Old World's global elite, and are responsible for the creation of the Odyssey spacecraft, an extrasolar colonial space project that was reconstructed in 2065 after the Faro Plague became known to the public.
In the present-time, Gerard Bieri serves as the leader of the Zenith remnants after their colony on Sirius was destroyed by Nemesis, their own failed creation. Due to being the creators of Nemesis that led to the rogue AI sending the extinction signal on Earth, the Zeniths are primarily responsible for motioning most of the present-time events of Horizon.
History[]
Old Ones[]
Due to the secretive nature of Far Zenith, not much is known about them, other than it being founded by Peter Tshivhumbe. They were described as a "futurist consortium", which comprised of seventy-seven members of the Old World's global elite, with Osvald Dalgaard being one of its members only known within the public eye.
In the year of 2061, the Far Zenith purchased the Odyssey project, which was abandoned in 2057, due to conflicts of the involving parties within the project's operation. Development of the project would soon be accelerated in 2065, when the Faro Plague was acknowledged to be an existential threat on Earth, capable of driving humanity to extinction.
During this process, however, it was revealed that the Far Zenith secretly took a backup of GAIA for the Odyssey without the knowledge of the Zero Dawn staff, including Elisabet Sobeck.
Fate[]
However, in 2065, their efforts of space colonialism tragically ended in failure, when their ship, the Odyssey, exploded as they attempt to leave Earth, killing its crew, destroying every zygote cargo and seeds, as well as the loss of the alpha-build APOLLO, according to Sobeck. As shown in the present-time of Forbidden West, however, the Zeniths are revealed to have faked the explosion and are instead succeeded in their goal of reaching Sirius 300 years later, circa 2365, which was only used as a deterrent to hide their current status of successfully escaping Earth.
The New World[]
Almost one thousand years later, Aloy and Varl would stumble into the overgrown ruins of the Far Zenith Launch Facility to look for a GAIA backup, where they learned more about the Odyssey from Dalgaard's hologram, as well as its destination: the Sirius System.
Both Aloy and Varl later found out that Far Zenith stole the GAIA backup for the Odyssey, which was located at the launch facility's data centre. However, as Aloy and Varl headed to the Data Center, the GAIA that the former found was nothing more than a logic bomb by Travis Tate, HADES' Alpha. This was after Tate and Elisabet Sobeck took notice of the Zeniths' attempted thievery of the AI from the "asset" later known as Hank Shaw.
The members of the Far Zenith are firstly encountered by Aloy inside LATOPOLIS, when she retrieved the MINERVA module, after she heard of the genetic-locked door opening, revealing Tilda van der Meer, Erik Visser, Gerard Bieri, and Beta, who was another of Sobeck's clones.
Aloy was then alerted, prompting Erik to personally fight off against the Nora Brave. Despite his advanced weaponry, Erik was no match for Aloy's ingenuity, when she destroyed the RECLUSE SPIDER's couplings, causing the module to fall, with him being knocked out by its explosion, and with Aloy escaping.
Aloy, Erend, and Varl would later encounter another of the Zeniths, Verbena Sutter, who was fighting against Regalla's Rebels and the Sons of Prometheus, a rebel faction of the Oseram who is joined with Regalla's forces. Verbena dispatched several of Regalla's forces, but was interrupted, when her shields was disabled through a mysterious device fired from the ballista by the Oseram, causing one of Regalla's men to kill her with his weapon, but she quickly dispatched him with her energy cannon, in return.
It is then revealed from Beta, the Zenith's Sobeck clone, to Aloy that the Far Zenith fabricated the explosion of the Odyssey, and its members were not the descendants of the original Far Zenith, but instead they were the same people who left Earth, a thousand years ago and have been settling on Sirius for many centuries.
The Far Zenith members including Tilda, Erik, and Gerard are encountered again by Aloy, Varl, and Beta in Cauldron GEMINI, the machine cauldron that HEPHAESTUS was currently housed in, with Aloy and Beta attempting to remove the rogue artificial intelligence to be absorbed within GAIA.
Erik would then attempt to take Beta away, but was immediately stopped by Varl. However, Erik prevailed against Varl, killing him off with his golden sword, and taking Beta away, as a result. Tilda would then turn against Erik and Gerard by disorienting them with a blinding light coming from her suit.
Aloy, Erend, Zo, Alva, Kotallo, and Sylens then joins in with Tilda to launch a full-scale assault on Gerard's base to rescue Beta and GAIA from captivity. Sylens would then permanently disable their energy shields through the device Aloy obtained earlier from a Specter machine by using it as a grenade.
Despite the efforts of the Far Zenith members and the Specter robots they launched, they proved to be unmatched against Aloy and her company, had it not for Tilda's assistance. Aloy would then kill Erik, thus avenging Varl's death, before she heads above the launch site of the ancient military base. Gerard was subsequently killed by Tilda, when Aloy reached the base's launch site.
Tilda later reveals that Nemesis, a super-advanced AI, once an erstwhile digital storage for the Zenith's thought patterns, which later went rogue due to it being a failed experiment from its creators. Was responsible for the destruction of the Sirius's Zenith colony in just mere hours, one of many reasons for their escape from their doomed colony to Earth and the sudden activation of Gaia's more destructive protocols on top of machine beast derangement.
Aloy would then square off against Tilda, the latter spawning her Specter Prime exoframe, but Aloy would prevail against it, ending Far Zenith's threat in the new world once and for all. However, during the attack of the Zenith base, one Zenith managed to escape the heat of the battle, which is Walter Londra, who escaped to the Burning Shores (post-apocalyptic Los Angeles).
Knowing Walter would be a threat, Aloy journeyed to the Burning Shores to stop the last remaining Zenith. However Londra revealed that he plans to manipulate the Quen into doing his bidding while he builds a spaceship to escape Earth and leave it for Nemesis to destroy. Knowing that Aloy would stand in his way, he activated a Horus Titan in an attempt to kill the Nora Huntress and her new friend Seyka. However, Aloy managed to defeat Londra and shut down the Horus Titan once more, thus finally wiping the Far Zeniths and the Old Ones, as an entire race, into extinction.
Current Status[]
With the rest of the Zeniths now wiped out after the events of Burning Shores, as well as Ted Faro's death inside Thebes, the Old Ones are considered extinct. However, the Zeniths' failed creation Nemesis is the last known example of Old Ones' folly and hubris, who is completely unaware of the events that transpired between Zero Dawn and Forbidden West, and as such is on its way to Earth.
Powers and Abilities[]
The members of Far Zenith possess highly futuristic weaponry, far more advanced than any rudimentary, tribal weaponry known in the New World including bows and arrows. Through nanotechnology, the Zeniths can form golden energy cannons into their hands.
In Erik's case, he is able to morph a golden knife in combat from his right hand, which he used to kill Varl during the events of Cauldron GEMINI.
Their members also happen to have energy shields around them, making them impervious to any regular attacks.
