~ The father

An unnamed Father, is the main antagonist of the 2024 Celtic Folk Song Children of the Moon by Ian Fontova.

Biography[]

The father is the mayor and the priest of an unidentified settlement and is a respected man among the people he governs. He also claims to have powerful connections. He also has the respect and trust of the settlement's knights who would dare not oppose him. He is also married and has an unidentified child. But he does not treat them as family. He abuses them to the point where his wife is now a broken woman who dares not to speak against him, and even treats his child with the same cruelty. He even warned his child that no matter where they ran, he would find them via connections he claimed to have.

Eventually, the child ran away from home and escaped into a beautiful enchanted forest that was home to spirits and creatures called "The Children of the Moon". The child met and was welcomed by the Forest's guardian spirit, who promised the child that they would be safe. The Spirit then asked the child why they ran away from home, and was told about the child's cruel father, and that the child could find no help from their mother, the Knights, or even from God. As the father was the priest, mother was too broken, and the knights dared not to oppose their mayor.

Enraged that such cruelty was allowed upon the poor child, and no help was available, the Spirit entangled the Father and the knights in his roots. it is unknown if they were killed or greatly injured. After that, the child began their new life in the forest, as one of the Children of the Moon.

Symbolism[]

Despite being a fantasy folk song with Celtic themes, Children of the Moon addresses modern day issues and themes such as domestic abuse, child abuse, and even has LGBT themes in it. As such, the Father is a metaphor for parents who deny their children their own anatomy. And instead treat them as property. The song also addresses how this is often seen as "the norm" and is often not dealt with or ignored by factions or people expected to enforce laws to protect from abuse. The song also has LGBT themes of parents rejecting their children when they come out, and sometimes use religion to justify their abuse or rejection.

As such, the titular Children of the Moon, are metaphors for found families, and LGBT people.
