Father Julius is a supporting antagonist in the 2023 musical fantasy film Wonka, which serves as a prequel to Roald Dahl's 1964 classic novel Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and a "companion piece" to the 1971 musical fantasy film Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory.

In his characterisation, he is a corrupt cleric of a cathedral that operates a base that is used by The Chocolate Cartel, which holds a large reserve of chocolate.

He was portrayed by Rowan Atkinson, who also played Emile Mondavarious in Scooby-Doo and Edmund Blackadder in the Blackadder franchise.

Biography[]

Past[]

Father Julius assisted The Chocolate Cartel with hiding all their chocolate in a secret reserve under his cathedral, guarded by his five hundred “chocoholic” monks and Slugworth's personal assistant, but later the Cartel's secrets were discovered by Abacus Crunch and found out Father Julius was a corrupt cleric and an important part and loyal minion to the Cartel, hiding the Cartel's headquarters because the Cartel bribed him lots of chocolate.

Wonka[]

Father Julius is seen in the church, letting the Chief-of-Police down into the secret reserve.

Julius later appears when Noodle begs him for some chocolate, but he lies to her saying he has none, before eating a piece of chocolate when she was not looking. And while he is not looking, she puts mints in his pockets.

He was planning on setting up a funeral, but was interrupted by Abigail the giraffe, which Willy and his friends stole from the zoo, and had sensed the mints in his pockets. Out of fear, Julius ran for his life, put the funeral on hold, and called animal control, which was just Wonka and his friends pretending to be workers.

During the funeral, he was called by Slugworth, who was stuck in traffic because Willy’s gang had released flamingos into the streets. He informs the situation at the cathedral before he hangs up.

He was later seen in the elevator when the Cartel, who recently attempted to drown Willy and Noodle in their chocolate reserve, gives him a piece of Willy's Hover-Choc which were meant for the Oompa Loompa, Lofty, before leaving the cathedral. Moments later, Lofty arrive at the cathedral and knocks Julius unconscious with the empty jar and heads down to save Willy and Noodle.

Following the Cartel's exposure, it is currently unknown what happened to Julius as Slugworth, Fickelgruber, and Prodnose unexpectedly floated away due to the Hover-Chocs' effect, but he was presumably arrested along with anyone involved in the Cartel's crimes including the Chief-of-Police, Mrs. Scubbit and Bleacher.

Personality[]

Father Julius is shown as a corrupt and selfish cleric, but is easy to fool. He is an important part of the Cartel because of his gluttony.
