The FBI (Federal Bureau of Investigation) are the overarching antagonists of the Netflix crime drama Ozark.

They are a powerful government agency supposedly devoted to investigating and stopping crime. However, they are secretly a greedy, corrupt institution that seeks to hijack criminal organizations and use them to profit greatly.

History[]

It is unknown how much of their backstory aligns with the real life organization's. However, they are first introduced in Ozark through two of their agents: The ruthless Roy Petty, and the conflicted Trevor Evans. Roy is determined to fight crime through any means necessary, even going as far as blackmailing criminals, and violently abusing them to get his way. His goal is to specific target the Byrde family and uncover their connection to the Navarro Cartel. Unbeknownst to him, his superior Hannah Clay has no interest in justice. However, he dies before he can learn the truth.

Later Maya Miller is introduced, a heroic and genuinely sincere agent who believes in doing the right thing through the right means. Unlike Roy, Maya eventually learns the truth about her superiors after Hannah Clay manipulates Omar Navarro into becoming her puppet, and announces the FBI's plan to secretly control the Navarro. Hannah disobeys the FBI and has Navarro arrested. For this she is "promoted" to a position where she no longer has any influence over the FBI's actions.

Hannah Clay makes several failed deals with various leaders of the Navarro cartel who end up dying, before finally working with the Byrdes to promote Camila Elizonndro to the very top of the Navarro Cartel. After the FBI successfully takes over the cartel, it can be assumed that they maintain their position for the foreseeable future.

Members[]

  • Hannah Clay (High ranking agent, and head of the Byrde investigation/Navarro Cartel case)
  • Roy Petty (High ranking agent, and the first one to oversee the Byrdes in-person)
  • Trevor Evans (Former high ranking agent, and second one directly assigned to interact with the Byrdes)
  • Maya Miller (High ranking agent, and third one directly assigned to interact with the Byrdes)
  • Graves (Hannah's enigmatic superior)

Trivia[]

  • While Graves is the highest ranking member of the FBI introduced in the series, Hannah is the more relevant antagonist, as she was the one directly overseeing everything involving the Byrdes and Navarro cartel.
  • It is unknown who is at the very top of the FBI.
