Fethullah Gülen, also known as the Muhterem is the overarching antagonist of 2017 action and drama film, Valley of the Wolves: Homeland. He is an elderly person who is the leader of his congregation who is the mastermind behind the 2016 Turkish coup d'état attempt.
He is portrayed by actor and director, Yücel Erten.
Biography[]
Gülen first appears in the beginning of the movie; his right-hand man approaches him and whispers something to Gülen, and then he and his right-hand man go to a secret place in the building where Dave was waiting for Gülen. Dave gives Gülen a green suit and tells him when the coup d'état is going to happen. After this, Gülen comes back to the room with his right-hand man, where his congregation members are, and he tells his congregation that he saw Prophet Muhammed in his dream, and he told Gülen that Allah will help him with his plans. Gülen then starts the coup attempt.
After some hours, Gülen discussed his presidency with Dave on the plane on the way to Istanbul. A few minutes before Gulen's plane lands in Istanbul, he learns that the Turkish president has arrived in Istanbul and orders the pilot to take the plane back to where it came from.
In the morning after the night of the failed coup, Polat Alemdar calls Gülen on Dave's phone while Gülen is arguing angrily. Gülen mistakes Polat for Dave and starts talking to him about landing his plane back where he came from, but he doesn't hear the answer for a while, and Polat tells him that he is after them.

- In the Valley of the Wolves, the Virginia International University, which is run by, if not, allegedly run by the Gülen movement appears on the list of organizations that rule the world given to Polat by Samuel Vanunu. The show claimed years ago that the Gülen movement and Gülen are playing an important role in world politics.
