~ Fia |
Fia, The Deathbed Companion or Lady Yuliya is a major character in the 2022 video game, Elden Ring. Depending on player choice, Fia can either play out as a major supporting character or a major supporting antagonist.
Fia, as her namesake states, serves as a Deathbed Companion, a maiden/witch who identifies herself as a member of Those Who Live in Death, who dedicate themselves to revering and protecting the undead, an unintended product brought about by the death of Godwyn the Golden via the Rune of Death. Having built a highly regarded reputation in the Lands Between, Fia was called upon by the Grace of Gold as one of the six Tarnished with the highest probability to become Elden Lord alongside Hoarah Loux, Gideon Ofnir, Goldmask, the Dung Eater, and the Tarnished of No Renown.
Despite seemingly being part of the Roundtable Hold, Fia freely admits that this is because of circumstances facilitating her stay. In truth, she is a member of an organization that opposes the Golden Order for their oppressive governing system and their discrimination towards Those Who Live in Death.
Fia is voiced by British actor and comedian Chiara Goldsmith.
Personality[]
Fia is introduced as being a soft-spoken and polite woman who introduces herself formally and request whether she could hold you. Should the player accept, Fia reveals her occupation and showcases herself to be rather kind, offering sweet whispers and comforts to the Tarnished, even if some of the tasks and objectives she enlists lean on rather questionable ends.
As a Deathbed Companion, Fia's tasks normally involve offering comforting hugs and embraces that are said to take away a bit of her client's vitality, though this comes with a traded benefit of a blessing that enhances one's poise. Another reason for her embraces is that she offers these extracted vigor to deceased nobles whom she also lays with, giving them some vitality.
Later on, Fia shows a more vicious side when she slays D, Hunter of the Dead. Should the Tarnished confront her on the matter, Fia is much more direct and confrontational, proclaiming to be a devout follower to Those Who Live in Death and Godwyn. Should they encounter one another again in the Deeproot Depths besides Godwyn's corpse, Fia will remain confrontational, but is just as willing to rekindle her partnership with the Tarnished and resume working on a common goal.
Fia is one of the more morally complex figures encountered by the Tarnished in the Lands Between. Even on a first first encounter, Fia's black robes shows signs of her being a mysterious and shady character, which is proven true when she reveals her true allegiance and intentions later in her questline and the way she kills D to retrieve one half of the Hallowbrand. But despite this, her kindness and embraces are genuine, at least later on and would genuinely thank the Tarnished for their help and acceptance by the end of her questline. She is fiercely protective of Those Who Live in Death, likening herself as a mother to their kind and shows devoted loyalty and faith to her occupation. Despite the extremes she is willing to commit, her ultimate goal is a noble one; most of the vigor she siphons is intended to be transferred to Godwyn, who is noted to be suffering under his current fate as the Prince of Death. She also intends to use some of Godwyn's essence and the two Hallowbrand halves to impregnate herself. Despite knowing that she will not survive giving birth, she is proud of her role as a Deathbed Companion and genuinely thanks and comforts the Tarnished in their last embrace, solidifying their working relationship.
