The Viking is the main antagonist of Amon Amarth's song "Where the Silent Gods Stand Guard" in the melodic death metal album Versus the World.

Biography[]

The Viking is introduced executing 10 men, ignoring their pleas for mercy. The Viking was an undead serial killer who fed on the steaming eyes and blood of his victims. The song makes it implicitly clear that the Viking had several other victims during his endless life. In the afterlife, he takes the severed heads of the ten men he had killed and places them on his shrine of which he had done thousands of times.

Much like any other of the Vikings, he drew pleasure from fighting in battles and killing. Being a nigh immortal being, the Viking traps the souls of his victims from devouring their flesh and blood. It is unknown as to how he had acquired this ability, but he notes to have done this process thousands of times. The Viking then ends the song waiting for the events of Ragnarok to play out so he could enter Valhalla, where those who have died in battle were destined to go.
