Anarky (real name Lonnie Machin) is a major antagonist in DC comics universe. He is a super intelligent political activist/terrorist who vows to overthrow the government and make better future plans for humanity and the state of Gotham City. He is a rogue enemy of Batman and the possible son of his archenemy, the Joker.

Biography[]

Modern Age[]

Lonnie Machin was claimed to be the child of famed Batman villain Joker, and a Vegas show girl. Unable to care for Lonnie, his mother left him at an orphanage. He was a child prodigy and was adopted very quickly. From a young age, Lonnie took an almost obsessive interest in political and philosophical literature. Lonnie embraced the philosophy of anarchism, and advocated the violent overthrow of all governments in favor of complete individual freedom.

At age twelve, he built a stun baton and several smoke bombs and donned his Anarky costume. He murdered several corporation chief executive officers, and spray painted the political symbol for Anarchy on their bodies. During his first encounter with Batman, he spray-painted his logo on his cape. He was eventually stopped by the Dark Knight, who was surprised to see that his foe was only a child.

Anarky was sent to a juvenile detention center. Over the years, he became an expert computer hacker. Using the screen name "Moneyspider", he began stealing millions from corporations and transferring the money to third world countries. Robin managed to discover who Moneyspider was and stopped him yet again.

Anarky would then invent a device that fused to the sides of his brain, giving him super intelligence. He set out to destroy Batman and Robin.

Despite his generally criminal activities, Lonnie has occasionally helped Robin and the superhero team Young Justice fight villains like Darkseid and Klarion the Witch Boy. His moniker was later usurped by the General, who wore a variation on Anarky's classic red costume.

New 52[]

After the Flashpoint event, Lonnie was known only as Moneyspider, but may become the new Anarky. When a human trafficker named Jeb Lester was set on fire and thrown from Wayne Tower in downtown Gotham City, Batman and Harvey Bullock began investigating the case. They discovered that Lester's killer was a new vigilante calling himself Anarky, using the persona of a figure seen during the Zero Year. After attempting to blow up Wayne Tower itself, Anarky went public with a video, exhorting Gotham City's citizens to break free from their self-imposed prisons and participate in citywide chaos.

To enable people to do so anonymously, he arranged for Anarky masks to be delivered to everyone's doorsteps. In truth, Anarky was city councilman Samuel Young, who was using his Anarky movement as a smokescreen to hide his real activities and motives. Several years previously, when Sam was younger, his sister had been abused and murdered by the Mad Hatter. Now an adult, Sam wanted revenge, so he kidnapped the villain. He planned to murder the Mad Hatter and also use the Mad Hatter's mind-controlling technology to command an army of innocent citizens, all wearing Anarky masks. He even went so far as to model his masks on his sister's face! It took the joint efforts of Batman and Detective Harvey Bullock of the G.C.P.D. to foil Anarky's plans.

Abilities[]

Genius level Intellect: Anarky is highly intelligent despite his young age. He has a wide knowledge of politics, computer hacking, and engineering.
- Computer Hacking: Anarky has enormous talents in hacking computer technology. He is one of the few people who could hack Wayne Tech, the Batcave, and even the Justice league Watchtower.
- Engineering: Anarky has enormous talents in engineering. He was able to create his weapons and gadgets to use in his activities.
- Eidetic Memory: Anarky possesses a photographic memory.
- Leadership: Anarky has great leadership skills as he was able to convince a group of homeless people start a riot.
Expert Martial Artist: Anarky was trained in multiple styles which he integrated into a hybrid fighting style which includes Aikido, Jujutsu, Karate, and Kung Fu. He is skilled enough to take on multiple opponents, or fight the likes of Red Hood and Batman.
- Expert Stick Fighter: Anarky is expertly skilled at using his stun baton in combat against multiples opponents or against skilled fighters like Batman. He can even throw his stun baton accurately enough to collapse a broken celling onto his enemies.

Mortar smoke grenades: Anarky carries small spherical shelled explosives with burning fuses (mimicking round mortar bombs stereotypically associated with 19th-century anarchists) which also come in tear and sleeping gas and smoke varieties.

Batman: Arkham Origins[]

Anarky appears as a side villain in Batman: Arkham Origins.

He plants three bombs at different locations around Gotham where corruption is worst. Batman must meet with one of his supporters and reach his bomb in a limited amount of time. He must also defuse the bombs and fight past Anarky's men. After he disables all the bombs Anarky challenges him to fight him in the abandoned Solomon Wayne Courthouse which he secretly made his base. Batman has to defeat his gang and eventually Anarky himself who wields a Taser. After defeating him Batman ties him up and leaves him for the police.

On New Years Eve his supporters start riots at random spots in Gotham and plant a bomb. However, Batman stops them.
