Badgey was an anthropomorphic holographic antagonist of the Star Trek: Lower Decks episode Terminal Provocations.

He was voiced by Jack McBrayer in his first villainous role.

Biography[]

Badgey was created by Ensign Sam Rutherford of the USS Cerritos as a tutor for his holodeck training program, and resembled an anthropormorphic Starfleet combadge Badgey was intended to work with trainees in order to guide them through various training scenarios, including spacewalks.

While Rutherford was guiding Ensign D'Vana Tendi through a spacewalk training program, the computer systems on the Cerritos malfunctioned, turning Badgey into a psychopath who was determined to kill both Rutherford and Tendi. When Rutherford switched the program to a Bajoran market Badgey chased them through the market, killing a number of Bajorans in the process.

Rutherford and Tendi fled up a pathway to a monastery on top of a mountain. Realizing that the hologram was also becoming tired due to the physical exertion, Rutherford switched the program to a frozen enviornment, which eventually caused Badgey to freeze solid. This finally enabled Rutherford to destroy Badgey just before the safety protocols reengaged, after which Badgey rebooted and offered to assist both Rutherford and Tendi, who declined his offer.

Later, needing a computer virus to disable an attacking Pakled vessel, Rutherford reactivated Badgey and disengaged the saftey protocols, allowing Badgey's psychotic tendencies to manifest again. Badgey created a virus to disable the Pakled vessel and using his implants Rutherford carried Badgey's program over to the Pakled vessel and began the process of uploading the virus before Badgey slowed the upload down and activated the ship's self destruct program in order to kill Rutherford. Before that could happen Lieutenant Shaks ripped off Rutherford's implant and put him on the shuttle they arrived in, and pushed the shuttle free of the Pakled ship. The ship self destructed a few seconds later, killing Shaks in the process.

In a post-credits scene in the season 3 finale "The Stars at Night", an unknown party locates Rutherford's old implant (still floating in the space junk) and beams it up. While it's being beamed up, it briefly flashes with Badgey on screen, revealing that he did in fact survive the prior events.

Trivia[]
