Having learned of Obi-Wan Kenobi's relationship with the Dutchess, Maul realized that she could serve as both the perfect bait for Kenobi, and the perfect tool for his revenge against the Jedi Master.
As Mandalore was technically neutral in the Clone Wars, Maul knew that Kenobi could not receive an official sanction from the Jedi Council for a rescue mission and as such, he predicted that Kenobi would mount his rescue alone.

On Oba Diah, Ahsoka places explosives throughout the Pyke complex before stumbling upon a conversation - between Marg Krim and Maul.
Marg Krim, the Pyke leader, speaks to a hologram of Maul, assuring him that they can proceed as planned despite the delay.
Maul says that although the Pykes are a small piece of the mechanism he has designed, their failure jeopardizes everything.
Krim responds that the Republic is cracking down on his operations, and had recently raided a shipment on Coruscant and Maul asks if the Jedi were involved.
Krim says none of his men made it out, which Maul says means that they were.
Krim attempted to assure Maul that the delay of the spice would not jeopardize his plans.
Maul took the loss of Krim's men as a sign that the Jedi had been involved in the raid.
Ahsoka continues to spy on Krim's and Maul's conversation.
Through the hologram, Maul senses Ahsoka's presence, she notices this and ducks out of sight just in time.
Just then, Maul noticed something hiding in the pipework surrounding where the meeting was taking place and turned to try to see what it was.
After searching for a few seconds, he discovered nothing and, not realizing it was Tano, turned back towards Krim, informing him that he had other things to attend to.
Maul speaking to the Pykes through hologram.
Maul warned him that if he caused any more delays, he would allow Crimson Dawn to take over the Pyke Syndicate.

Kryze enlists Tano's help to liberate Mandalore from Lord Maul.
During the final days of the Clone Wars, and two days after returning to Mandalore, Maul and his forces found themselves under siege and Tano hears the cold clack of metallic footsteps.
Maul tells her that he was hoping for Kenobi, and asks Tano what she is doing here.
In the Undercity of Sundari, Ahsoka Tano is surrounded by Mandalorian super commandos as Maul steps from the shadows.
Maul knows Ahsoka's name, although it is not familiar to him.
Ahsoka says she knows him, and Maul chuckles, saying he is sure they have several "mutual friends".
Maul walks near Ahsoka who activates a beacon on her gauntlet, which alerts Rex and his squad to her location.
Maul stated that Tano's name was familiar to him, but he did not know who she was, and she retorted that he knew of him.
Maul continues, telling Ahsoka he was certain Obi-Wan Kenobi would have been the one to search for him.
Maul continued, telling Tano that perhaps Kenobi would have brought along with his "loyal foal", Anakin Skywalker.
Ahsoka states that Kenobi had a more important engagement causing Maul to state indeed.
Maul wondered if "the moment" was upon them.
Maul ponders why Kenobi sent Ahsoka, and she suggests he surrender so they can ask him.
Maul says his surrender would be pointless, as he believes the Republic and the Jedi will soon no longer be the controlling interest in the galaxy and when Ahsoka asks if he will be the one to replace them, Maul fearfully replies that Darth Sidious will be.
Ahsoka and Maul activate their lightsabers and briefly duel.
However, before they could finish talking, Rex and several other clones arrived, attacking two super commandos from behind as Maul ignited his lightsaber and attacked Tano who just barely managed to defend herself in time.
Maul briefly locked blades with Tano before retreating.
Tano and Maul crossed blades briefly.
During their brief duel, Maul says "Not yet..."
Just then, clone forces led by Rex arrived and opened fire, forcing Maul and his Mandalorian forces to flee.
Maul uses the Force to throw Ahsoka and Rex into the wall so he and his troops can escape.
Maul took an interest in the ARC trooper Jesse, who was older than the rest of them, and took him alive where the clone says that they are wasting their time because he won't tell them anything.
Maul is amused that he believes this statement to be true.
Maul remarks that clones are bred for combat and tells them him that they are part of a greater plan.
Maul reminisced about the Sith's Great Plan, which he admits he was not made aware of.
Maul says that he played his part and was cast aside and forgotten, but that he survived and can thrive in the chaos to come.
As Saxon leaves, Maul turns his attention back to Jesse, but Jesse defiantly tells him that he won’t be telling him anything but Maul doesn't care and says that he will make his mind speak or break.
Maul then began to mind probe Jesse for information.
While Rook holds Jesse, Maul does a mind probe.

Maul remarks that the dark side has never been stronger.
Maul explains that soon the galaxy will be remade.
Maul continues that in the chaos they must seize what power they can.
Maul tells the Mandalorians that it is not their way to die in the gutters.
Maul spoke to the super commandos, stating that their warrior culture did not prize hiding away.
Maul assured them that if they were to die, it would be on the battlefield, as warriors.
Playing on their sense of honor, Darth Maul promised them glorious deaths in battle as an incentive to attack the occupying forces.
If they die, Maul promises that it will be on the field of battle and if they die, he promises that they will die as warriors and the Mandalorians cheer.
Sometime later, Maul returned to the throne room when Ahsoka Tano, Bo-Katan, and Rex entered.
As they enter the throne room, they are greeted by Maul, who says that he agrees and kneeling beside him is the bound Jesse.
Bo-Katan charges at him with her blasters, but this merely amuses Maul.
Darth Maul telekinetically redirects her blasts away with the Force, before levitating her with an almost crushing grip.
Maul asks if that is the right way to treat her rightful ruler before throwing her down.
As a show of "good faith," Maul returns their comrade in arms Jesse.
Maul uses the Force to release Jesse from his binders.
Maul handed Jesse back to them as a show of "good faith."
After this feeble attack, Maul used the Force to free Jesse of his stuncuffs and allowed him to return to his allies.
As the two clones left, Saxon's forces outside began their attack, with explosions being heard from inside the room.
Maul sat as Tano insisted that Kryze go fight as her people needed her.
After Tano told Bo-Katan and Rex to leave, Maul was left alone with her.
As the battle outside was raging on, Maul began talking in a calm manner to Ahsoka.
Maul remarks that the belligerents outside are blissfully ignorant, as he views the battle.
Ahsoka demands to know what is going on and suggests that he save it for the Council but Maul says that she is the one that he wanted to speak with.
Maul asks if she was not cast out of the Jedi Order.
Tano replies that she left voluntarily.
Maul reminds her that she left because of the hypocrisy of the Jedi Council.
Darth Maul adds that they were both tools for greater power.
Ahsoka responds that she is here to bring him to justice.
Maul counters that justice is merely the construct of the current power base.
A base which according to Maul's calculations is about to change.
Ahsoka asks if Darth Sidious is behind it. Maul confirms this is true, but adds that Sidious is going to reveal himself.
Ahsoka suggests that Maul could help the Jedi stop Darth Sidious before it is too late but Maul retorts that it is too late because the Republic has already fallen, adding that there is no justice, no law and no order except for the one that will replace it.
Maul says that the time of the Jedi has passed and that they cannot defeat Sidious, but suggests that the two of them could work together to defeat Sidious.
As the explosions rage, Maul tells Ahsoka that every choice she has made has led her to this moment and stretches out his hand.
An explosion shatters the windows of the throne room, scattering glass everywhere.
Tano considered the offer as the windows on one side of the room were shattered in by the fighting outside.
As explosions continued to ring outside, Maul extended his hand for Tano to join him as she contemplated her decision.
Tano says that she will help him on the condition that he answers one question and Maul says that she has to ask it.
Ahsoka asks what he wants with Anakin Skywalker and Maul says that Skywalker is the key to everything.
When Tano asks if it is to bring balance to the Force, Maul replies that Skywalker is the key to destroying the Sith and that he has long been groomed for his role as Sidious' new apprentice.
Maul explains that he was so certain of this fate that he orchestrated the conflict on Mandalore in order to lure him and Kenobi here to kill him, thus depriving Sidious of his prized pupil.
Ahsoka disagrees and draws her lightsabers telling him that she knows Anakin and that his visions are flawed but Maul remarks that "the Padawan needs one last lesson".
Tano, angered and disbelieving that Skywalker would ever fall to the dark side, changed her mind and ignited her lightsabers as Maul stood watch.
To this, Maul ignited his own weapon and claimed that he needed to teach her one last lesson.
Angered by the rejection, Maul stated that Ahsoka needed one more lesson and activated his own lightsaber.

Ahsoka initiated a fierce duel between the two Force-Sensitive Outcasts.
Maul managed to disarm Ahsoka of her main saber.
Tano was now on the defensive once more, being forced to fight with only one saber.
She soon managed to kick Maul, allowing her a brief opening to use the Force and retrieve her blade, forcing Maul to evade the saber as it returned to her hand.
The fight then took a brief pause as Tano insulted Maul by claiming that if Skywalker had shown up, Maul wouldn't have lasted long in their fight.
Maul commented that Tano had Kenobi's arrogance.
Before she swung her saber at him, Ahsoka mentioned that she likely had many qualities he disliked.
Resuming the fight, Tano managed to gain the upper hand.
The two continue fighting in the Sundari Palace.
Tano was eventually forced to jump back several times to evade Maul's attacks.
Forced in a saber lock, Maul grunted, attempting to disorient Tano.
Ahsoka briefly engaged in a saber lock in which Maul nearly had the upper hand.
This gave her the opportunity to kick him outside of one of the palace's windows.
As his Mandalorian forces were being overrun, Saxon contacted Maul asking for reinforcements, but he abandons him, saying that a ship would soon be arriving to pick him up.
Gar Saxon retreats and calls Lord Maul for reinforcements but the Sith tells the Mandalorian to die well before severing the comlink.
Tano revealed her presence by igniting her lightsabers and remarking that Kenobi was right about how difficult the Zabrak was to kill.
Ahsoka confronts Maul before he can make his planned escape.
Maul’s
furious stare as he reached the top of the building, Ahsoka caught up with him.
As Maul turned to look at her, Tano rushed at him as he reignited his own lightsaber to continue their duel.
Seeing Tano, Maul ignited his lightsaber as Tano rushed towards him.
Maul blocked her oncoming attacks as she lunged at him.
Tano caught up with him on the support beams of Sundari's dome, and the two continue their lightsaber duel.
They then once again engaged in a duel on the support beams of the bio-dome, jumping around them while their blades clashed.
As the fight continued, Tano jumped back on one of the support beams and almost lost her footing.
Briefly forcing her on the defensive before regaining herself and attempting to kick Maul, but he managed to evade.
Their duel continues, an elegant display of combat as they balance on narrow beams and trade blows.
Tano backs away as Maul lunges towards her with his double blade.
Ahsoka managed to regain herself before Maul attacked.
Mid-duel, Maul commented on how they could have destroyed Sidious if Tano had only followed through on her agreement, but Tano knew that it would only allow for Maul to take Sidious' place.
Maul exclaimed that if she had joined him they could have destroyed Sidious together, but Tano knew that this would have only been for Maul to take his place, which she commented in response.
They then reengaged in the duel.
As Maul jumped towards her, Tano backed away.
Both combatants clash their lightsaber blades together while standing on the support beams.
Tano managed to elbow and kick him to another support beam, causing Maul to briefly be caught off balance.
Maul barely managing to catch himself before falling.
As Maul regained his footing, Tano once again charged at Maul.
This attack gave Maul the opportunity to kick her back.
She then once again lunged at him, but was forced off and kicked back, barely managing to hold onto a support beam.
Just then, a starship arrives and the pilot tells Maul that they must depart immediately.
Maul runs up the beams to reach the ship.
Maul shattered the glass on the dome of the city in an attempt to escape.
Tano once again rejoined the fight, slashing her lightsabers at Maul.
Tano chased after him, jumping up and knocking him off of where he stood.

Tano followed Maul upward before he escaped and the battle continues.
Maul and Ahsoka continue dueling each other on the support beams while his ship awaits.
As the two reengaged, Maul and Ahsoka lock their lightsaber blades in a lock.
Maul managed to yet again disarm Tano of her primary lightsaber free from her hand, leaving her to fight with only her shoto, causing it to tumble down to the fighting below.
She attempted to fight him with only one of her sabers.
Maul managed to easily disarm her of her second saber.
Maul manages to knock both Ahsoka's blades out of her hands.
Having gained the upper hand, Maul sliced the support beam the two were standing on, causing it to sag.
Tano remained in a fighting position, ready for Maul to attack her once more.
Tano began to lose her balance when Maul severed the support beam she was standing on, causing it to sag.
Maul leaped through the air and jumped onto her sagging support beam.
Maul then leapt over the breach to stand on the sagging beam above Tano.
Rex spots Ahsoka and Maul above and hurries to get a gunship to reach them.
With the beam giving way, Maul offers Ahsoka one last chance to join him or die.
With Tano cornered, Maul gave her one last chance to join him.
He gave her one last chance to join him, which she refused leading to Maul to react.
Tano once again refused, drawing Maul's anger.
Ahsoka rejects his offer and he advances with his lightsaber.
Gaining the upper hand, Tano managed to grab Maul's lightsaber and throw him over her back.
She threw Maul off the beam but Tano caught him with the Force as Maul cried out for her to let him go and to let him die.
Maul told Ahsoka to let him fall, but she refused, just as three LAAT gunships arrived with Maul furiously telling Ahsoka she had no idea what she had just done and that they are all going to die soon.
As she held him in place, the gunships Rex had called in arrived as Maul grew increasingly panicked.
As three Republic gunships approach, Ahsoka uses the Force to move him close enough for two of Bo-Katan's Mandalorians to secure him with grappling cables.
As he was captured, Maul wailed in terror of what was to come, claiming that all would burn and die, with his cries ending once Rex shot him with a stun blast.
Maul wailed in terror of what was to come, claiming they were all going to die before one of the Mandalorians used the whipcord within his vambrace to tie Maul up, allowing Rex to stun him.
Rex stuns Maul and tells Ahsoka that they will take it from here.
Maul is held prisoner by Bo-Katan Kryze, Ursa Wren and her team.
Bo-Katan and Ursa Wren escort Maul, encased in a Force-proof capsule, to a Nu-class transport.
Maul was subsequently imprisoned within a Mandalorian device designed to restrain Force-users.
The Mandalorians bring Maul, secured in a mobile cell designed to hold Force wielders, to the Republic forces.
The Mandalorians imprisoned him in the last existing containment pod built by their culture for Force-users.
Now with Maul in their custody, the transport took off to board one of their Star Destroyers.
Enclosed in the Mandalorian capsule, Maul watches as Ahsoka talks to Rex.
The transport lands in a Venator-class Star Destroyer.
The clone troopers escort the capsule to a detention cell.
Maul accompanied by a detachment of the Coruscant Guard.
Clones transport Maul to a holding cell.
While en route to Coruscant, the clone troopers stood outside Darth Maul's cell.
Maul sensed the events of Order 66 while in his captivity.
In his cell, Maul's eyes open as he hears in his head the voices of Palpatine, Windu and Skywalker as they duel in Palpatine's office.
From his cell, Maul sensed a disturbance in the Force.
Rex orders two troopers to proceed to the detention level and execute Maul.
Maul watches as two clone troopers enter his cell.
The clones arrive at Maul's cell and the Zabrak's eyes race with fear as they open his coffin-like chamber.
In his cell, Maul had also sensed the events on Coruscant leading to the execution of Order 66 and the troopers unlocked his cell.
Members of the Coruscant Guard take aim at Maul, ready to execute him.
When the two shock troopers reached his cell and prepared to execute him, however, he was saved by Tano.
With this, Tano looked towards Maul.
Ahsoka told him not to make her regret her decision.
She releases Maul, telling him not to make her regret this.
Ahsoka freed him from his restraints.
Subsequently released from the containment unit, Maul fell out of the vault.
Darth Maul expressed his surprise that she had survived.
Instead of feeling flattered, Tano held her lightsaber to his throat and asked him if he was behind the clone's turning.
Maul instead explained that he did not know exactly what had transpired, but instead said that he was sure Tano had felt the voices crying out in pain.
Tano demanded to know if what was happening was his doing, but Maul did not know what she was talking about.
She then revealed that the clones had turned against her and Maul laughed at the "brilliance" of using the Jedi's army to destroy them, much to her disgust.
Maul went on to explain that despite being Sidious's apprentice, he was unaware of the plan's finer details, but that he now did — the Grand Army of the Republic had turned against the Jedi Order.
He then stood up and said that Tano had done the right thing in seeking his help and asked her to follow his lead to survive.
Tano instead held her lightsaber up to him once more and made clear that she just wanted to use him as a diversion and not as a partner.
With this, Tano ordered Maul to go cause some chaos as Maul looked at her with hatred displayed on his face.
As the two walked out of the cell, Maul asked for one of Tano's lightsabers so that he might be granted a fighting chance.
Tano declined his offer and commanded him to leave once more.
Maul proposed a team-up with the former Jedi Padawan, but she harshly rejected his offer and told him he was merely a distraction to cause some chaos, refusing to lend him one of her weapons to aid in his escape.
Maul makes his way through the cruiser, obliterating all in his path.
Despite being unarmed, Maul used the Force to rip panels from the walls to act as shields.
Elsewhere on the ship, Maul, despite being unarmed, easily overpowered the clone troopers with the Force.
Maul throws a couple of clones with the Force.
Maul blocks a blaster bolt with a panel.
As the clones retreated, Maul cornered a group of them in a corridor, ripping a panel from the wall to serve as a makeshift shield.
Maul slammed a shock trooper into the ceiling before throwing the panel to decapitate Ridge and another trooper.
The clones try to hold their own against Darth Maul.
Maul tore a path of destruction through the ship.
Darth Maul used more wall panels to crush two troopers together.
A winded clone briefly stands before falling to the ground unconscious.
Maul turned the double wall panels into shields as well.
Maul then used another piece of metal and Force pushed it into another clone, impaling one and pinning him against the wall, and knocking the other to the ground.
Using a piece of metal from the hallway, Maul threw the metal and sliced a couple of clones.
After the two were incapacitated, one of the three remaining clones contacted Commander Rex that Ridge was down, and that Maul was heading towards the hangar.
When the troopers reported the carnage and that Maul was advancing on the hangar, Rex ordered them to retreat and seal the blast door in an attempt to direct Maul's approach.
However, Maul pulled one trooper's arm through the closing door as several of his comrades tried in vain to pull him back, resulting in the arm being severed when the door closed.
Maul knelt down to listen to the chatter on the wrist comm the clone had been wearing,[1] before stealing it to eavesdrop.
Maul then made his way to the hyperdrive room.
Maul walks toward the hyperdrive room, still using a clone trooper's wrist comm to listen in on their radio chatter; over the radio, one of the clones reports to Jesse that Tano has escaped.
Maul listens as Jesse asks about Rex and is told he is missing in action then asks if Rex has aided in Tano's escape, but they don't know.
Two troopers round the corner and train their guns at Maul, who lifts them into the air, choking them.
Maul enters the hyperdrive room and dodges a blasterbolt.
Maul continues to stalk the ship, monitoring chatter over a stolen comlink and storms the hyperdrive room.
Storming the hyperdrive room, Maul used the Force to quickly take out the clones stationed there.
One trooper was able to report Maul's presence in the hyperdrive room as he sprinted.
Darth Maul quickly and violently dispatched the clone troopers with the Force.
A clone trooper holds Maul at blaster point as he rushes towards him.
Maul punches a 332nd trooper in the gut stunning him.
Maul tosses the 332nd trooper into another one as he kicks them both away.

After defeating the clones, Maul turned his attention to the control consoles.
Maul began to tear the control console away.
Maul ripped the hyperdrive engines apart.
Maul crushed a squad of clones who had entered the room.
Maul gazes above the hyperdrive engines in the ceiling.
Maul reaches out with the Force towards the engines.
Maul began to collapse the hyperdrive mid-jump.
Maul began pulling the hyperdrive generators down with the Force.
Maul concentrates as he continues to destroy the hyperdrive room.
Maul tears the control console away, then uses the Force to pull the hyperdrive generators down.
In an awesome display of power, Maul brings the massive hyperdrive generators crashing down.
Maul destroys the hyperdrive with the Force.
This act forced the ship out of hyperspace and caused it to begin to fall apart.
More troopers enter the hyperdrive room but are crushed by the falling debris.
Maul in the hyperdrive room and destroyed it, causing the capital ship to fall out of hyperspace and into a collision course with a nearby moon as the vessel began to slowly tear itself apart.
As the engine room falls apart, Maul smiles satisfyingly at the chaos he's caused.
As the 332nd legion ran to reinforcements, Maul emerges in the damaged hallway.
Maul runs into a section of the corridor to hide.
Over the commlink, Maul hears the clones report to Jesse that they think Tano and Rex are heading to the hangar.
Jesse's troops converge on the location, followed by Maul.
As the ship began falling out of the sky and onto the moon's surface, Maul made his way to the hangar.
Maul enters the hangar bay and sees the commotion with Ahsoka and the clones.
Maul took advantage of the opportunity to see a shuttle.
As this was happening, Maul managed to locate the transport.
Maul appeared inside the hangar, also attempting to escape the crashing Star Destroyer as Rex and Tano continued to fight the remaining clones, Maul ran past them.
Noticing Maul running past them, Tano notified Rex then chased after Maul and allowed Rex to deal with the rest of them as he followed her.
Ahsoka saw him and gave chase, but Maul attacked her with the Force and said that he was only causing chaos as she wanted.
As she arrived to stop Maul, he threw several crates at her with the Force, telling her that she had wanted this chaos and threw a cart at her as she jumped to avoid it.
Finally arriving to attack Maul, Tano slashed at Maul before he used the Force in a powerful push, knocking her all the way back to the lifts.
Darth Maul ran to steal the shuttle and escape in it.
Maul then tried to take off in the shuttle.
As this occurred, Maul stole the shuttle and began to use it to escape the Venator.
Maul takes off in the shuttle, but Ahsoka climbs up and uses the Force to hold it in the hangar.
Tano ran towards the shuttle and used the Force in an attempt to stop Maul from escaping.
As she did this, Maul increased power to the thrusters.
Maul increased the boosters causing Ahsoka to begin sliding across the floor of the hangar and forcing Rex to grab her hand to stop her from slipping away.
Reinforcements began to arrive in the hangar, which Rex noted to Tano, who was still attempting to hold Maul back.
Seeing that Rex was beginning to become overwhelmed by the clones, Ahsoka was forced to let go of the shuttle and allow Maul to escape.
Maul escapes again, also his last scene in The Clone Wars.
Ahsoka lets go of the shuttle, and Lord Maul takes off into hyperspace.
While trapped underground, Ezra hears a voice in the darkness call out to him.
Once underground, Ezra encountered a mysterious elderly man.
Maul encounters Ezra Bridger.
Ezra draws his lightsaber in self defense, prompting the stranger to tell the boy that he means him no harm.
The stranger then tells Ezra that he has been stranded on Malachor after his starship had crashed.
When pressed, Ezra reluctantly tells the stranger that he and his friends are on a quest and the stranger then responds that he is also seeking knowledge about the Sith.
Maul tells Ezra he's there for the same thing.
The stranger offers to lead him to the Sith temple but adds that he is too old to enter the temple by himself.
Alone and lost, Ezra reluctantly agrees to accompany the stranger into the Sith temple.
The stranger introduces himself as "Old Master" with Ezra sarcastically replying that his name was Jabba.
Old Master offers to help Ezra get the knowledge of the temple.
Ezra and the Old Master continue their journey to the Sith temple with Old Master understanding his predicament since he considers the Inquisitors as powerful opponents.
Ezra asks the Old Master whether he was a Jedi, the man replies that he was a Force-wielder a long time ago.
After Ezra questions if he was a Sith, the Old Master replies that the Sith were the enemies who had ripped him from his mother's arms, murdered his brother, used him as a weapon and then finally abandoned him.
When the Old Master asks Ezra whether he wants revenge, the young apprentice replies that he wants justice.
The Old Master then claims that the Sith temple contains the knowledge necessary to destroy the Sith.
Ezra asks the Old Master if he will share this knowledge with him and he agrees he will.
Ezra and the Old Master descend the stairs to the temple.
Ezra and the Old Master approach the temple.
The Old Master describes the temple as both a place of worship for some and an engine of destruction to others.
When Ezra asks how they'll get in, the Old Master explains that two must lift the stones guarding the temple since that is the way of the Sith.
When Ezra inquires on his extensive knowledge of the Sith, the Old Master tells him that to defeat his enemy, he must understand them.
The Old Master observed as Ezra began using the Force to lift the stone door.
Ezra tells the Old Master that he can't complete the task because it is too heavy.
As Ezra struggles to open the stone door, the Old Master implores him to give in to his anger and passion, something that was forbidden by the Jedi.
Ezra attempts to unlock the temple again.
The Old Master was pleased with Ezra's progress telling the young Jedi to use his power.
Using their anger, Ezra and the Old Master are able to open the temple's first door.
Old Master watches Ezra reach out with the Force trying to unlock the temple.
Ezra holds the entrance door with the Force as the pair enter the temple.
However, they find that the temple has a row of stone doors.
The Old Master seeing Ezra struggle decides to join with lifting the doors.
Together the pair held the door up using their combined Force powers.
Together, the two Force-wielders managed to make their way through the Sith temple.
Old Master and Ezra lifting doors with the Force.
Upon reaching the temple, the two Force-wielders used their Force powers to force its heavy stone doors open.
Maul realized upon seeing Ezra that they must embrace Rule of Two.
Old Master and Ezra raise the last door.
This process exerts a lot of energy from Ezra.
Bridger asked the Old Master how many more doors they have to open.
The Old Master stands aside as Ezra begins to lift the final door.
The Old Master smiles as Ezra begins to lift the stone door.
Ezra and the Old Master experience a challenging trial involving the use of Force.
At the urging of Old Master, Ezra tapped into the dark side in order to force their way inside the Temple.
The Old Master then urges Ezra to give in to his rage and anger in order for them to succeed.
Having gained each others' trust, Ezra then tells the stranger his real name.
Old Master can't remember his real name.
The Old Master says he once had a name a long time ago that he doesn't remember.
The Old Master removes his hood revealing himself as Maul.
In response, the stranger tells him that he was now called "Maul."
Maul and Ezra walking towards the center of the temple.
Maul leads Ezra to the center of the temple where they see a Sith holocron resting on an altar.
Ezra recognizes the holocron but it is different from a Jedi's and Maul states that a Sith holocron holds secrets that are forbidden.
Ezra and Maul come upon the Sith holocron.
Maul tells Ezra that only someone willing to risk oblivion would be worthy of the power of the holocron.
Since the altar is separated by a deep chasm, Ezra tells Maul to throw him to the altar, stressing that this was something his master had taught him.

Maul lectures that Sith holocrons are keys.
Unlocking the final door the pair came across came across Jedi Knight Kanan Jarrus and Ahsoka Tano fighting Inquisitors.
Maul sees Ezra ignite his lightsaber.
After obtaining the holocron, Ezra and Maul encountered Kanan and Ahsoka fighting the Eighth Brother and two other Inquisitors.

Maul cackles as he approaches both parties.
At this point, Maul and Ezra stumbled upon the two opposing parties.
Darth Maul describes himself as formerly Darth, stressing that he is now called Maul.
Kanan then warns Ezra to stay away from Maul, but Ezra tells Kanan that Maul is on their side.

The Eighth Brother asks Maul if he has the holocron and he says he will find out soon enough.
Clearly outmatched, the Seventh Sister calls a retreat and they flee.
When Ahsoka questions Maul's motives, he tells her the endgame.
Maul claims that he is seeking the same knowledge as them.
Maul also warns the Jedi and Ahsoka that Darth Vader himself would be coming soon.
Kanan asks how Maul knows this and he says the Inquisitors will inform Lord Vader.
Kanan is not convinced that Maul will help them take on Vader - or that Maul is on their side.
While Kanan and Ahsoka distrusted Maul due to his past record, Ezra argued that Maul could be trusted and recounted how they had worked together to obtain the Sith holocron.
Maul then convinced his allies into helping him carry out his plan to plant the holocron in the temple's obelisk; claiming that it would give them the knowledge to destroy the Sith.
Maul told the others that they would have to work together in order to defeat him.
Still unwilling to trust Maul, they only cooperated with him at the behest of Ezra, who remained adamant that Maul was on their side.
After Maul reassures them that they are on the same side, the four travelers make their way to the top of the Sith temple.
When Maul attempts to take Ezra to the top, Kanan doesn't take kindly to this suggestion and pushes him aside leaving Ahsoka with Maul.
The Inquisitor fights Ezra for the holocron but Maul strikes just in time.
Shortly thereafter, the Eighth Brother catches up with them and attempts to recover the holocron from Ezra, however, Maul and Ahsoka manage to drive him away.
Maul Force pushes the Eighth Brother away.
Maul drove off the Inquisitor and helped Ezra up.
Before the Inquisitor could harm Ezra, Maul arrived at an opportune moment and drove off the Inquisitor.
Maul and his Jedi comrades see the Inquisitors fly away.
When Kanan tells Maul that the Inquisitors have realized their plans, Maul advises them to split up in order to better handle the Inquisitors.
Maul convinced the Jedi to split up so that they could delay their opponents.
Despite Kanan's objections, Ezra decided to accompany Maul to the top of the obelisk.
Maul again offers to take Ezra with him and despite Kanan's objections, Ezra this time decides to follow Maul.
Maul instructs Ezra to find the same strength inside him that is used by the Sith.
As Maul and Ezra make their way to the top of the Sith temple, Maul begins to sow seeds of discord between Ezra and his master.
With Maul's guidance, the rebels scaled the temple in an attempt to reach the top, where Maul claimed they could find the knowledge they sought to defeat the Sith.
Along the way, they are ambushed by the Seventh Sister and her seeker droids.
Maul tells Ezra to use his anger and pain to let it fuel him against the Sister.
Maul grabs the Sister with the Force.

Maul orders Ezra to kill the Seventh Sister.
Devoid of such mercy, Maul throws his own lightsaber at her, killing the Seventh Sister.
Maul admonishes the young Jedi and tells him that in the future, his hesitation might cost him or his friends their lives.
Hearing Ezra's companions in the distance, Maul tells the boy they must hurry.
Maul and Ezra see the Inquisitors fighting the Jedi.
It was then that Maul sensed the presence of Darth Vader, who was approaching Malachor.
Splitting up again, Maul tells Ezra to plant the Sith holocron in the temple's obelisk while he goes to assist Ahsoka and Kanan.
Maul then told Ezra to continue his journey to the temple's obelisk while he went to "help" Kanan and Ahsoka deal with the other Inquisitors.
Maul readies himself to engage the Inquisitors.
Maul then engaged the Inquisitors while Ezra continued on alone.
Arriving at the scene, Maul engages the inquisitors and forces the Fifth Brother onto the back foot.
Arriving at the scene, Maul joined the assault on the Fifth and Eighth Brother.
Taking advantage of his distraction, Ahsoka lunges forward and strikes the Fifth Brother's lightsaber, damaging it and rendering it useless; disarmed and defenseless, the Fifth Brother quickly falls to Maul.
Ahsoka, Kanan and Maul about to confront the Eighth Brother.
Confronted by the three Force-wielders, the Inquisitor attempts to flee using his lightsaber's helicopter technique but it breaks apart in mid-air, causing him to plummet to his death below.
With all the Inquisitors dead, the three Force-wielders take a breather.
Maul smiles as he senses Ezra nearing the top.
Kanan demands to know where Ezra is.
Maul claims Ezra as his apprentice, surprising Ahsoka and Kanan.
In an instant, the dark side Force-wielder slashes Kanan in the face with his double-bladed lightsaber.
Maul slashes Kanan in the face with his double-bladed lightsaber.
Before Maul could deliver the killing blow, however, Tano intervened.
Maul tells Ahsoka that Ezra will be his apprentice.
While dueling Tano, Maul tells her that Ezra is on his way to activate the temple, which he reveals is a battle station that he intends to use to destroy all his enemies.
The Sith temple then begins powering up and Tano starts pushing Maul back in their duel.
Maul battles Ahsoka telling her that Ezra will soon be his and he cannot be stopped.
Ahsoka blocks Maul's lightsaber strike.
Maul mockingly asks Lady Tano if she is running away again.
Ahsoka mockingly states to Maul that he would have to try and defeat Kanan first before getting a chance to challenge her.
Underestimating Kanan, Maul declared that he would finish off the Jedi quickly.
The two fought briefly, but Tano realized time was running short and left Maul with Jarrus.
Maul quietly circles around the blind Kanan preparing to duel him.
Maul about to engage a blinded Kanan.
Maul jerks back onto the staircase before rushing towards his prey.
Despite being blinded, Kanan uses his Force powers and his other senses to fight against Maul.
However, using his other senses, amplified by the Force, Kanan caught Maul's arm and tripped him.
Relying on the Force and his other senses, the blind Jedi grabbed Maul's arm and, coupled with the surrounding statues, threw him off the pyramid.
Kanan succeeds in pushing Maul over a cliff into the chasm below.
Maul survived the fall and eventually fled the planet using one of the fallen Inquisitors' TIE Advanced v1s.
Following the destruction of the Sith temple on Malachor, Maul smiled as he plotted his next move.
Maul contacts Kanan and Ezra through hologram.
On the bridge of the CR90 corvette, Ezra and Kanan learn Hera and the other Spectres have been taken prisoner by Maul and his repurposed tour guide droids.
When Ezra accuses Maul of betraying them, Maul admits he betrayed the others but that he would have remained loyal to Ezra.
Maul states he'll kill the Jedi's friends.
When Kanan asks what he wants, Maul demands the Sith holocron that they obtained on Malachor.
Maul then adds that Kanan also bring his Jedi holocron, Kanan begrudgingly agrees, despite Hera's protests, and Maul signs off stating that he'll see them at the rendezvous point.
Maul tells his captive audience – Hera, Sabine, Garazeb Orrelios, and Chopper – that he thought the ship was just a transport, but that he now realizes it is their home.
Aboard the Ghost, Maul inspects a painting done by Sabine Wren.
When Zeb angrily asks whether he's planning to move in, Maul asks captain Hera for a tour of the ship but she gives Maul directions to the airlock, suggesting he show himself out.
Maul softly demanded Syndulla give him a "tour" around the Ghost, prompting Sabine Wren to implore her not to, to which Maul replied she should trust him, for he did once rule her people.
Hera then takes Maul on a tour of the Ghost with Maul noting that Ezra and Zeb's cabin has a "curious smell".
Maul notes that Sabine's cabin is quite colorful.
Maul forces Hera to lead him into the next cabin, Kanan's quarters.
Surveying each living quarter, Maul identified Jarrus' as the dull and dour one, befitting of a Jedi.
Instructing Syndulla to reveal the location of the Jedi holocron, the Twi'lek told Maul that she didn't know anything about Jarrus.
Knowing this to be a lie, Maul probed her mind with the Force who tried to resist.
Maul uses the Force to read her mind, calling her out for lying and discovering Kanan's real name, Caleb Dume, and learned that it was Syndulla's idea to recruit Bridger.
Maul discovered that the boy once stole the holocron, which was being held in a compartment below Jarrus' bed.
Maul finds where Kanan keeps the artifact, retrieving the holocron from its drawer.
Maul taunts Hera about finding the holocron not be difficult.
Maul struggles to open the Jedi holocron.
Back on the Ghost, Maul is unable to open Kanan's holocron and loses his temper.
The rebels then knock out their captors, take the droids' blasters and make their way down to the engine room via the central ladder, Zeb closing the trapdoor moments before Maul enters.
Maul enters and finds the common room empty.
Discovering their absence, Maul went searching for the rebels and eventually made his way to the cargo hold.
Maul comes down the front ladder and sees Chopper in the cargo bay and Sabine orders Chopper to activate the magnetizer, pulling Maul onto the cargo bay's ceiling.
Seconds later, the rebel crew's astromech droid, C1-10P, activated the magnets, causing Maul's legs to adhere to the vessel's ceiling.
Maul magnetized upside down to the ceiling.
The rest of the rebels promptly rushed into the cargo hold and started firing at him; however, Maul deflected one of the bolts into the control interface, deactivating the magnets.
Sabine Wren tries to rush Maul in the cargo hold.
Maul Force chokes Sabine Wren.
The Sith Lord broke free with his lightsaber, hit Zeb with a box an threw Wren into Hera with the Force.
Maul then reasserted his authority and warned his prisoners that they were only alive as long as they were useful to him.
Maul enraged threatens the rebels with their deaths once their usefulness is over.
Honoring their side of the agreement, Ezra and Kanan traveled in an A-wing starfighter to the Mandalorian asteroid station Vizsla Keep 09.
The two Jedi then travel on an A-wing trainer to the coordinates where Maul has arranged to meet them and arrive at the rendezvous point, a Mandalorian asteroid outpost, they land in the main hangar, next to the Ghost.
Maul approaches as Ezra helps Kanan out of the A-wing.
Maul tells Kanan to follow the sound of his voice.
Kanan tells Ezra to take it easy with Maul.
There, they are greeted by Maul, who mockingly addresses Kanan as "Master Jedi".
Upon arriving, the two Jedi were greeted by Maul who asked Ezra if he found the Sith holocron illuminating.
Ezra demands to know that his friends are safe but Maul replies that their friends will be his guests until their business is complete.
Maul orders his tour droids to escort Ezra to the command center; if he attempts to free his friends or if the tour droids are deactivated, he warns Ezra that his friends will die.
While Maul dealt with Kanan, Ezra was escorted by two repurposed tour guide droids to the command center.
Maul escorts Kanan to his friends.
On the way, Maul apologized to Kanan for blinding him, confessing that he was not trying to blind the Jedi, who retorts that Maul was only trying to kill him.
Maul responds by stating that if you don't succeed, than try again, shoving the Jedi into an airlock.
Maul led the Jedi to an airlock and pushed him in, proceeding to eject him into space.
Believing Jarrus to be dead, Maul went to meet Bridger.
Maul quietly instructs one of his droids to execute the rebel crew.
Maul tells Ezra that he has lived up to his end of the bargain, and lies that his friends are safe then asks Ezra to kneel on the floor.
Maul asks Ezra for the Sith holocron.
Swapping holocrons, Maul and Bridger sat down on the floor.
After settling down, Maul asks Ezra if he knows what will happen when they open both holocrons, and Ezra says that he knows that any question they ask will be answered.
Maul is surprised that Ezra knows, and asks him what his question will be and when Ezra expresses his desire to destroy the Sith, Maul replies that he is seeking only hope.
Maul begins to mediate as he begins to fuse the holocrons.
The darksider and a lightsider began to work together.
The two open the holocrons, which are drawn together.
Maul and Ezra joining the holocrons together and fuse, bathing the room in brilliant purple light.
The holocrons bathed the command centre in a pink blaze of light.
Maul had Ezra start the fusion with him.
Maul concentrates as the holocrons join.
Back in the command center, Maul exclaims that he sees nothing but oblivion and vows to go deeper.
Maul peers into the light of the holocrons.
Ezra sees something. but are interrupted by Hera shouting, and the light from the holocrons becomes even more brilliant.
Kanan removes his visor, and sees Ezra and Maul in the holocrons' light.
Despite the room being bathed in a bright pink glow of light, Kanan managed to sense Ezra and tells him to look away, but Maul tells him to stay focused.
The young Jedi is tempted by a vision of seeing the key to destroying the Sith but Maul says he can see "him", and Ezra sees twin suns.
Kanan warns Ezra that it is not worth it; Ezra listens to his master and closes his eyes.
Heeding his master's warning, Bridger closed his eyes, causing the energy from the holocrons to explode enraging Maul.
Suddenly, the bright glow disappears and the holocrons separate, destroyed, as the rebels are knocked out by a shockwave, giving Maul a chance to escape.
Maul proceeded back to his ship.
Maul, taking the opportunity to flee, laughs with the knowledge realizing what he had seen in the holocrons.
Maul gleefully mutters "He lives!", before departing aboard the Nightbrother.
Hera is discussing a recon mission with Ezra listening when he hears Maul whispering his name, and sees him standing behind two Rebel troopers in the distance.
While Hera is speaking, Ezra sees Maul walking among a group of rebel soldiers.
At that point, Ezra hears Maul's voice growing louder and sees Maul walking behind a pilot.
When Kanan asks Ezra what's wrong, Ezra sees Maul sneaking past Rex.
When Garazeb Orrelios notices that Ezra is unwell, Ezra sees Maul walking past the Lasat.
When Kanan asks Ezra what he sees, the boy hears Maul saying his name, and turns to see the darksider right behind him.
Ezra sees Maul walking among the rebel troops and rushes to confront him.
Ezra, seeing Maul's feet on the other side of a starfighter, leaps over it and attacks a rebel trooper he sees as Maul.
On one occasion, Ezra even attacked and almost killed a rebel trooper whom he mistook for Maul.
Ezra witnessed Maul and attacked a rebel soldier, whom he mistook for Maul.
Before Ezra can kill the false "Maul," Sabine and Kanan intervene and force him away.
Ezra attempts to strike Maul with his green lightsaber, but Kanan uses the Force to restrain Ezra's arms telling the boy to look, as it's not Maul.
Kanan and Ezra turn around to find Maul standing on top of the hill, watching them.
The real Maul appears at Chopper Base on the planet Atollon.
Maul remarks that this is a strange place.
Maul states the Empire will have a difficult time finding them due to Atollon's remoteness.
Maul was left with the location of Chopper Base on Atollon, and tracked Ezra and Kanan down on the planet.
Ezra and Kanan ignite their lightsabers, and Maul says that he did not come to fight, but to talk with "his" apprentice.
When Kanan emphasizes to Maul that Ezra is not his apprentice, Maul replies, "Yet."
Ezra asks Maul how he found them, and he explains that when Ezra abruptly severed their connection to the holocrons, both of them were left with fragments of the other person's memories and knowledge.
