~ Dexter DeShawn betraying V. |
Dexter DeShawn, better known simply as Dex, is major antagonist in Cyberpunk 2077, serving as the secondary antagonist of Act 1. He was a well-known fixer in Night City. In 2077, he had recently returned to the city after spending a few years off the grid.
He was voiced by Michael-Leon Wooley, who voiced Darkseid in Batman: The Brave and the Bold, Young Justice and Injustice 2, and Audrey II in the 2003 revival of Little Shop of Horrors.
Biography[]
Early life[]
Dexter made his name as a substantial fixer in Night City, though he is not quite on the level as Rogue Amendiares. He was known to select mercs for gigs based on his intuition and did not use a regular crew. Dex left town for several years on what is rumored to have been a vacation, though Royce claims he went into hiding after ruining half of Pacifica and made a lot of powerful enemies who wanted him dead.
Cyberpunk 2077[]
Dex returned in 2077 and was contracted by Evelyn Parker to steal the Relic from Yorinobu Arasaka, so she could sell it to the Voodoo Boys. He hired T-Bug, Jackie Welles and V to handle the heist at Konpeki Plaza, but insisted on limiting their cut of the payout to a mere thirty percent since they were new on the scene. To prepare for the heist, DeShawn paid ten thousand dollars in advance to buy a stolen Militech Flathead from Maelstrom, and also shelled out for the Delamain "Excelsior Package" to cover Jackie and V's escape.
After the heist went sideways due to Yorinobu's unexpected murder of his father, Saburo Arasaka, V managed to escape and meet Dexter at the backup meeting location, the No-Tell Motel. Dexter was furious that V had brought so much heat on him, and personally killed V and had their body dumped. Unaware to him, this inadvertently triggered the Relic inside of V, resurrecting them but causing an engram of Johnny Silverhand to slowly overwrite their psyche. Later, Saburo's bodyguard Takemura tracked down Dexter and forced him to recover a newly resurrected V. Dex was executed after fulfilling his task. Word of his death and V's connection to it quickly spread around Night City's underworld.
Personality[]
Dexter DeShawn considered himself a very calm man. In addition, he was convinced that in a city like Night City you could live to a ripe old age and lead a good life. He was very patient, and he weighed every word during the conversation. Being a fixer, he was interested in specifics as well as a prudent approach to the order. Nevertheless, he had a tendency to philosophize and ask reflective questions. For this reason, he got along quite well with T-Bug, whose philosophical theses were also familiar. Dexter DeShawn claimed to be a very quiet man until he ran out of patience.
Dex considered himself old-fashioned. He liked to look the man he hired in the eye. For this reason, he preferred to meet in person rather than be contacted only by communicator.
