The entity known simply as the monster is the main enemy and antagonist of the indie 2012 Survival Horror game Erie. It was mutated by forced experiments, lurks in an abandoned underground facility and will kill anyone that enters it.

Though at first it appears to just be a single monster, it's eventually revealed that there are more like it running around.

Personality

The main monster that targets the main character Oliver is relentless and constantly chases him to devour his body. Some of the notes in the games imply this is normal behaviour for the monsters, and the ending proves this as once they're all freed they immediately go after Oliver.

A few however, merely observe or ignore Oliver, perhaps showing some degree of humanity left, or very little mental capacity to target him.

Physical Appearance

The monster is quadruped and roughly twice as big as the average human. Its front limbs possess huge claws and are larger than its hind limbs, which have two toes. Its skin is pale in color and slightly yellow, it lacks visible teeth (though it does in promotional image, and other monsters like it do possess sharp and large fangs) and its eyes are pure white with no pupils.

Biography

The Monster makes his debut, smashing the glass in front of Oliver.

It was in October 1966. In a nuclear plant under Lake Erie, a Fermi 1 Nuclear Power Generator lab accident occurred, and locals began to vanish. An investigative reporter named Oliver Victor was called to the scene to investigate the disappearances.

Oliver then found himself in an underground complex, and searched for survivors, but the rescue mission turned into a struggle for survival when the monster began hunting him down ruthlessly. Eventually, Oliver managed to escape a grisly fate when he launched himself out of a pipe into the waters of Lake Erie. But just because he managed to survive the monster's wrath didn't mean that it was defeated and wasn't awaiting its next unsuspecting victim...

Trivia

• In truth, none of the monsters were actually defeated, as they were left to wander the plant unopposed and might've even escaped to feed on other humans across Michigan and beyond. There's also the possibility that Oliver informed the authorities of what was going on in that plant and a squad or two were sent to exterminate the monsters.
• The noises made by the monsters resemble some of the hissing/huffing noises heard in the movie [REC].
