King MacFrights is one of the ghosts encountered in Luigi's Mansion 3. He is a spoiled, short-tempered king and makes his lair in Castle MacFrights, located in the sixth floor of the hotel. Luigi fights him for the seventh floor's elevator button.

Biography[]

Luigi first sees MacFrights materializing on the balcony of the castle and taunting him with the elevator button. He challenges Luigi to go through his castle and reach him to retrieve the elevator button. When Luigi manages to arrive in the arena, MacFrights notices him and becomes angered for this. MacFrights immediately goes inside his heavy armor and rides his ghost horse to battle Luigi. At the same time, he is "cheered on" by cut outs of ghosts as the audience.

King MacFrights rides around the arena and summons fire arrows that fly directly at Luigi. He also charges towards Luigi using his lance. Because of his heavy armor, MacFrights is immune to a simple flash from the strobulb. In order to defeat King MacFrights, Luigi has to stun him using a well-timed flash from his flashlight whenever he charges, which causes MacFrights to pass out momentarily. This gives Luigi the chance to use the Suction Shot and slam him against the floor. Each time Luigi does this, MacFrights will lose more parts of his armor, becoming more vulnerable. After he loses it all, the second phase is initiated.

Despite destroying his armor however, King MacFrights uses his sword and shield to fight Luigi. He will use his shield to protect himself from flashing and swing the sword to damage Luigi. Luigi must wait when MacFrights spins around with his sword, which causes him to go dizzy, allowing Luigi enough time to flash and vacuum him along with his sword.

At the end of the game, it is revealed that most ghosts in the hotel were brainwashed by King Boo, and thus were unwilling accomplices. Thus, this might also be true for King MacFrights. However, his eventual fate remains unknown.

Trivia[]

  • In the Dutch translation of the game, his name "Kare De Boze" is a reference to Frankish king Charlemagne, and his title "de Boze" means "the Bad" (which foreshadows his ruthless nature towards Luigi).
  • He is the only ghost in the game to have a flat tail.
