Mr. Potato Head  otherwise known as Husband is the main antagonist of the Melanie Martinez song "Mrs. Potato Head" and a very minor antagonist in the thematic story for the album Crybaby. He is a wealthy and extravagant man who continually pressures and berates his wife over imperfections in her appearance.

He was portrayed by Justin Berti.

History[]

He makes his sole appearance in the "Mrs. Potato Head" video, where Cry Baby is watching the TV and grows insecure over an advertisement describing what a perfect woman should be and look like. She then leaves the room and heads into the bathroom to put on makeup, a wig and stuff her bra before taking diet pills, feeling unsatisfied with her appearance and growing evermore emotionally distressed.

Mr. Potato Head then appears when his wife returns home and he presents her with a gift; a very expensive and extravagant pearl necklace, before handing her a card reminding her of a doctor's consultation over a face lift and breast augmentation, while she looks fairly disheartened although still somewhat pleased at this Mr. Potato Head is gleeful and expresses how good this will be to her.

She then takes the same diet pills Cry Baby felt pressured into having earlier before falling asleep. The following morning she and her husband arrive at the doctor's office, where he points out all of the areas that he feels need improvement.

The surgery takes place and afterwards she is brought home by Mr. Potato Head who after a while helps her remove her bandages only to be completely horrified at the result of the surgery which had left her disfigured. The two have an argument ending with Mrs. Potato Head looking on in disbelief at her now look while her husband sits on the bed exasperated. She has a breakdown over this and tries her best to make herself look how she did before to please her husband, however in the end he leaves her for another woman, breaking her heart.

Following these events Cry Baby looks to her TV screen horrified and in distress before removing her wig and bra stuffing.

Personality[]

Mr. Potato Head was an egotistical, superficial perfectionist who had a charismatic persona, however it didn't do much to hide his incredibly controlling and abusive nature, he was willing to go as far as to pressure his wife into getting surgery she was clearly apprehensive about simply because he was dissatisfied with her current look only to shun and abandon her after the surgery was botched, showing his true cruel nature.

Appearance[]

Mr. Potato Head was a ruggedly handsome and well groomed man with slightly tanned skin, slicked back black hair and white teeth. He was always seen wearing a light pink suit with a sky blue shirt.

Trivia[]

  • Mr. Potato Head is the only villain in either album or film who Cry Baby doesn't actually have any physical interaction with. However his influence is still prevalent over her as she learns to love herself and be satisfied with her body after sensing what happened in the scenario with Mr and Mrs. Potato Head.
