The Zombie Argentinosaurus (also nicknamed the Mad Sauropod) is the main antagonist of the seventh episode of Primal, "Plague of Madness". It is an individual Argentinosaurus that was infected by the Zombie Parasaurolophus, which turned it into a rabid and destructive beast.

Appearance[]

This sauropod was a large adult Argentinosaurus. It was originally a dark turquoise coloration with a purple tail, like its herd members.

It laster took on a zombie-like appearance after being infected by the Zombie Parasaurolophus, such as a sickly green color and orange, vein-covered eyes. Mucus leaked from its nose and mouth while its eyes watered heavily from the pain of its infection. Skin seemingly melted off parts of its body as the virus progressed, exposing its bones.

As it chased Spear and Fang, the dinosaur ripped off an entire flank of its hide while trying to squeeze through a narrow ravine, exposing its ribcage. The intact areas of skin were covered in bubbling, boil-like pustules caused by the virus.

Personality[]

Prior the infection, the Argentinosaurus was quite peaceful, relaxed and calm, enjoying eating fruits with its herd. Upon seeing the infected Parasaurolophus, the sauropod was at first confused with what's wrong with it but didn't see it as a threat and continued eating until it was bitten. This triggered a natural aggressive response from the sauropod, who then hurled the infected hadrosaur into a tree, killing it.

After becoming influenced by the virus, the Argentinosaurus lost control of its own actions, becoming an unstoppable beast driven to carry out a great slaughter. It immediately turned on its own kind, completely annihilating its entire herd, including nests full of unhatched eggs. Seeing Spear and Fang, the Argentinosaurus tried to kill them without a second thought. Even when infected, it was smart enough to play possum to trick Fang and Spear into thinking it was dead in the gorge.

Power and Abilities[]

Mad Sauropod (Strong Teeth)

Zombie Argentinosaur tears off a chunk of flesh.

The Zombie Argentinosaurus possesses extremely heightened physical strength, surpassing even members of its own kind to the point of being able to effortlessly kill them one by one through brutally crushing their bones and ripping body chunks out of them. It is strong enough to easily kill the Parasaurolophus with a single move, launching it flying by merely lifting its leg, as well as passively knock down the trees while chasing its prey.

Thanks to its species' naturally immense size and mass, the Zombie Argentinosaurus displays tremendous amount of durability, even with its flesh slowly rotting away due to the Plague of Madness. It is able to survive blows from its own kind without feeling anything, as well as survive toppling over several times. The Argentinosaurus is even capable of resisting lava for brief amounts of time, submerging its entire body and swimming it in after falling into fissures, although it eventually burned its entire body to ashes after failing to escape it for the second time.

For a creature of such proportions, the Zombie Argentinosaurus possesses superhuman speed and stamina, easily keeping up with far smaller Fang and Spear while chasing them relentlessly to midnight, as well as effortlessly catching up to an uninfected Argentinosaurus that was trying to flee. It also demonstrated superhuman jumping, seen when it lunges at Spear and Fang several times.

Thanks to the Plague of Madness, the Zombie Argentinosaurus lacks muscle tissue and internal organs within its body, as demonstrated when Spear landed on top of it during their chase through active lava geysers. It also presumably lacks blood flowing through its body, since it puked a large stream of blood upon mutating.

Being a sauropod, the Zombie Argentinosaurus possesses a prehensile whip-like tail that can be utilized as a natural offensive weapon against opponents, seen when it killed one of its kind using it.

Despite being a herbivore, the Zombie Argentinosaurus has strong teeth capable of ripping chunks of flesh out of its victims. Its bite can also transfer the Plague of Madness to another victim, though only if the potential new host is alive (as the Argentinosaurus that was bitten on the neck died very shortly after the wound was inflicted when a part of its neck was torn off, implying the virus only works on living organisms).

Weaknesses[]

Being a biological creature with no supernatural attributes being zombification, the Zombie Argentinosaurus remains vulnerable to lava. If it spends too long being submerged, its flesh will eventually burn off while its bones will disintegrate into ashes.

Because of its immense size and weight, the Zombie Argentinosaurus has difficulties moving in smaller areas. This is demonstrated when during its chase of Spear and Fang in a gorge, the sauropod gets stuck and was forced to mutilate itself to get out.

Even with its undead-like qualities, the Zombie Argentinosaurus can still be knocked unconscious, as well as pass out from exhaustion.

Biography[]

This individual Argentinosaurus was a part of a larger herd that inhabited a seemingly peaceful forest, which included a large watering hole and hundreds of trees for browsing. While feeding with its herd, the sauropod encountered a sick Parasaurolophus acting madly and with flesh rotting off its bones. Not seeing it as a threat, the Argentinosaurus continued eating before it was bitten by the infected Parasaurolophus.

The giant herbivore killed the sick hadrosaur by hurling it away in an aggressive reaction, but its fate had already been sealed. After looking at its wound, the virus immediately began taking over the sauropod's body, causing mucus to leak from its nose and mouth as it became deathly ill. Feverish and struggling to breathe, the now-sickly Argentinosaurus walked to the watering hole and drank deeply, gazing at its reflection in the water before proceeding to vomit up massive amounts of blood.

The herd looked in fear as the sick sauropod flew into a violent rage, thrashing wildly as the virus completely took over its body. No longer in control of its own actions and reduced to little more than a feral, rabid beast, the dinosaur turned on its own herd, smashing nests filled with eggs and killing any herd member in its way, in spite of the leader of the herd attempting to stop its rampage. Before long, the entire herd was wiped out with no survivors.

Sometime later, Spear and Fang encounter the infected Argentinosaurus, stumbling on the carnage it caused. Fang was able to detect the sickness by scent, and as the two wondered what had happened, the infected sauropod rises from its resting spot amongst the carnage to attack them and a brutal chase ensues.

The enormous dinosaur falls down a cliff while running, seemingly killing it, but in reality, simply knocking it unconscious. It reawakens and continues to chase Spear and Fang, who had spent an entire night waiting to see if it was dead. The duo leads the Argentinosaurus first into a narrow ravine and then into a volcanic lava field where its own heavy weight becomes its downfall, causing it to fall through the crust and into the magma.

Slowly, the sauropod burns alive, roaring in agony before finally being incinerated and blowing away. As the ashes of the Argentinosaurus scattered into the wind, Spear and Fang looked on somberly at the dinosaur's fate. A single piece of ash lands on Spear's hand, as he realized it had been a suffering creature.

Trivia[]

  • Apart from the zombie-like nature and appearance of the virus, what illness the Argentinosaurus had contracted is unidentified, although through examination, the symptoms resemble a mixture of both rabies and flesh-eating diseases.
  • Harkening to the show's representation of "classic" dinosaurs, the sauropod is based on the 1994 depictions of Argentinosaurs rather than the more accurate modern depiction.
    • Despite this, particular aspects of its design are accurate to real world sauropod anatomy; the forefeet almost completely lack nails, with the exception of an enlarged claw on the first digit.
  • Some of its roars are actually from the Wither Storm from Minecraft: Story Mode, as well as those of King Kong from the 1976 film of the same name.
  • It is unknown why the other sauropod it bit didn't turn infected, but it can be assumed the virus needs a living host to function.
  • The zombie Argentinosaurus is widely considered to be the first sympathetic villain in the franchise, followed by the Viking Chieftain.
