Nothing will stop me but victory or death.
~ Sendak

Commander Sendak is a major antagonist in Voltron: Legendary Defender, serving as a supporting antagonist in its first season, a minor antagonist in its fifth season, and the main antagonist of its seventh season.

He is one of Zarkon's most trusted and loyal commanders, who was trusted to take down the Castle of Lions from the inside, which eventually rejected him out into space while in a cryogenic pod. There, he waited until after Zarkon's death where he was freed by Acxa, Ezor, and Zethrid under Haggar's orders. He is also the archenemy of Shiro.

He was voiced by Jake Eberle.

Appearance[]

Sendak is considerably taller than the average person and is a Galran. He has mauve fur and golden eyes, although his right eye has been replaced with a red prosthesis. In the heat of combat, Sendak also lost his left arm, which was later replaced with a huge, potent, and horrifying gauntlet that was fastened to his shoulder by a violet energy chain.

Sendak is dressed in the signature brilliant red armor of many higher-ranking commanders in the Galra Empire, which is embellished with black and dark gray. The armor bears two shining yellow decorations on its cuirass, each with a face-like pattern

Personality[]

I know exactly what I am. I am a warrior!
~ Sendak.

Sendak has a cold-blooded and cruel disposition appropriate of a battle-hardened Galra commander and is unwaveringly devoted to the Galra Empire and Zarkon. He is cunning, adept at spotting lies, and not beyond teasing his opponents while they are engaged in combat or subjecting them to cruel emotional and mental agony in addition to physical punishment. His willingness to electrocute inmates in public view to force their sympathizers to submit to his will and his belief that respecting other people's lives is a weakness to be exploited are both examples of his harsh behavior.

The Commander of the Galra Empire's military, given the privilege of being personally taught by Zarkon himself, seems to bear great satisfaction in showing off his achievements to the emperor and seeking his favor. Sendak's pride and lack of failure appear to be his downfalls, as he has a tendency to lose his cool easily when things don't go as planned. His agitated mood makes him vulnerable to trickery and finally results in his demise.

Above all, Sendak is the military leader who will fight on at the cost of all his men, because he is loyal to Emperor Zarkon and will do what he commands without question.

Trivia[]

  • Sendak is the new incarnation of Commander Yurak (whose original name in GoLion was Sadak). This is notably seen with his big feline ears, along with a single bright glowing yellow eye, and the bright red cybernetic eye.
    • The most notable difference in his appearance is Sendak's cybernetic arm is far more prominent than Yurak's prosthetic, and it has switched sides (now on his left rather than the right).
