Black is a main character and anti-heroic protagonist from the Twisted Metal game series. In the first game, he was a demon that was created by Mr. Ash to kill the demonic head of the Twisted Metal contest known as Calypso. However, he ended up briefly serving as Calypso's right-hand man before getting reclaimed by Mr. Ash. Later on, he returned in Twisted Metal: Black, once more, being implied to have been sent by the real Calypso to kill the alternate version of Calypso.

Origin[]
Black was a creature created by Mr. Ash, specifically created to kill Calypso. Mr. Ash gave it enough power to destroy the will if it was angered enough, making it the perfect adversary to Calypso.
Twisted Metal[]
In the year of 1996, Black was sent on his mission of destruction. To kill Calypso and bring the Twisted Metal tournament to an end. However, it would seem that Black failed his mission, causing him to be forced into joining Calypso. When his creator, Mr. Ash wins the tournament, Black is captured and seemingly trapped inside some kind of casing, containing him and his powers. Mr. Ash then leaves the scene, explaining that the fires of hell need fuel.
Twisted Metal: Black[]
*Twisted Metal: Black is confirmed to take place inside Sweet Tooth's depraved mind. This means that while events in Twisted Metal: Black could have happened, they are definitely twisted or altered in some way, due to Sweet Tooth's insanity.
On top of the above, due to the vague and mysterious nature of Twisted Metal: Black, there are several unconfirmed or heavily speculated elements of the story,
Black would later on, return to the competition, but in a very different way. Black now had a whole new design. Now appearing as a large, muscular man with a black, rubber mask with several zippers, seeming to be a gimp mask of some kind, along with several black straps all over his body. It is heavily implied that the version of Calypso, as seen in TM:B, is a completely different person altogether than the one from the rest of the series. Most likely having something to do with Sweet Tooth, as the entire game takes place in his depraved mind. Either way, Black is sent by the canon Calypso to hunt down and kill this alternate Calypso. However, he is tricked, and this new Calypso sets up a bomb with a "loving" note taped to it. The bomb goes off and destroys the area around him, but Black is unscathed. This is due to his immortality. He gets back into his vehicle and flee the scene. Happy. As this is actually what he wanted. Admitting that it's "more fun" this way.
Appearance[]
In Twisted Metal, Black is a large creature with glowing yellow eyes and two horns. He wears a dark cloak and is shrouded by darkness. However, when we see him again in Twisted Metal: Black, he has a whole new look to him. He now had a whole new design. Now appearing as a large, muscular man with a black, rubber mask with several zippers, seeming to be a gimp mask of some kind, along with several black straps all over his body.

- The bomb that brings down Calypso's hideout in Black's ending is, apart from the "loving" note Calypso adds to it, almost identical to the one that John Doe's doomsday gang planted in the medical research plant. Whether this is a simple design choice or implication that Calypso was behind the plot is left up to the player to decide.
- The bomb in Black's ending, at first, did not have the same design as John Doe's bomb. In the unused cut scene that Sony previewed, Black's story is narrated not by the character himself but by Black's creator. His name is not revealed, but he can possibly be Mr. Ash. He quotes: "At first, I thought it was over. All of my dreams dashed...ruined! My family's death still unavenged!" But, for a reason still unknown, that element was removed in the final debut version of Twisted Metal: Black.
- Black, as seen in Twisted Metal, has a very similar design to Mr. Ash's true form.
- It is possible that TM:B is named after him.
