Fin Fang Foom (Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy)

Fin Fang Foom is a supporting antagonist in the 2021 video game Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy.

Foom is a famous and powerful dragon with a notable reputation for its ferocity, and was rumoured to have been once challenged by the Katathians in the past. He is seen residing in the icy planet of Maklu IV. Foom was later challenged by the Guardians before its temporary death, an act that angered Lady Hellbender. Thanks to Groot's newfound ability, however, Foom was revived from the dead and he joins the Guardians to the cause against the Universal Church of Truth.

Appearance[]

Foom is a giant male Makluan dragon who has green skin as well as purple-looking tubular scales around its body. He has blue eyes, a large tail and wings. In his first encounter he is also seen with an icy shield around its torso, used to protect against all attacks from its enemies.

Personality[]

With his seeming primitivism, Fin Fang Foom's clear personality is unknown. Although, the huge dragon is also renowned for his aggression and restlessness, frequently leaving Maklu IV to hunt on several worlds. Once tamed, Foom also demonstrates loyalty by letting Lady Hellbender to ride him into combat and sticking by her side after they have defeated Raker and the Church. Several myths about the dragon imply that he was once intelligent and even dressed in purple shorts, similar to his mainstream comic counterpart.

Background[]

The past of Fin Fang Foom is mostly obscured by myth and folklore, including the story of his fearless birth in the icy core of a dying star. Many people think he comes from Kakaranthara, which xeno-archaeologists think is the same as Maklu IV.

Whether or not this is the case, Foom made his home on the deeply frozen planet and rose to the position of the planet's feared apex predator. His off-world adventures have been the source of numerous legends over the ages, including the claim that he wore purple shorts.

Foom is firstly seen in Chapter 13: Against All Odds when the Guardians encountered it in its own lair within the planet in an attempt to make amends between them and Lady Hellbender. Initially, the plan went awry after the Guardians accidentally killed him, causing Hellbender to be almost thrown in rage over their actions of killing the Kakarantharan Dragon Lord. Groot soon used his newfound healing powers to revive the dragon from its demise, resulting in Hellbender and Foom allying with the Guardians in the battle against the Church.
