Joey: Ladies an' gentlemen, it's the pain in the butt.
Virgilio: Pain to the max!
Max: You're killing me. Did you make that up yourselves or did you get some wino downstairs to come up with it? Don't answer that. A rhetorical question. I've got something for the boss. Lupino around?
Joey: That kinda depends on who's askin'. A friend... or a junk squad plant! But don't answer... It's one of 'em., how'd ya put it... rhetorical questions.
Virgilio: Lupino ain't here, but he says "bye".
~ An altercation between the Finito brothers and Max Payne that ends in a gunfight.
Joey: Pain in the butt!
Virgilio: Haha! Pain to the max! Junk squad pig, gotta ticket to marble city for ya.
Joey: Eat first, and lyin' down!
Virgilio: Free today!

Joey and Virgilio Finito, better known as the Finito Brothers, are minor antagonists from the 2001 third-person shooter game Max Payne. The two brothers are the high-ranking members of the Punchinello crime family, who run the hotel owned by Jack Lupino, helping him in his criminal activities.

They were both voiced by Tye Alexander, who has also voiced one of the regular mobsters from the same game.

In graphic novel, Joey was portrayed by Aki Saariaho, and Virgilio was portrayed by Teemu Järvi (Sam Lake's brother).

Biography[]

After the incident at the Roscoe station, Max Payne pursues the only lead he has at the moment - Jack Lupino's involvement in Alex Balder's assassination. He decides to visit the hotel owned by him, which is a front for all sorts of rackets like escort services, drug dealings and contract killings.

Instead of Lupino, he runs into the Finito brothers, the co-owners of the hotel who immediately recognize Payne and attempt to crack a joke to insult him. Unfazed by their crude humor, Max responds sarcastically and outwardly asks them if Lupino's around, which, given the protagonist's occupation, angers the brothers and makes them react violently, thus starting a shootout. Max leaps away from the bullets and hides around the corner, with Joey choosing to knock down a table for a cover and open fire from behind it, while Vergilio runs around the office with his sawn-off shotgun to reach Max in his safe spot. Despite their best efforts, the brothers are gunned down by the hero.

Once the fight is over, the hero notices a letter addressed to the brothers on their office desk. The letter, which was written by Jack Lupino's right-hand man, Vinnie Gognitti, informs the brothers of the V-deal that will commence in their hotel and warns them of the special guest, a known assassin by the name of Rico Muerte, who is summoned to keep everyone in line.

Appearance[]

Both Joey and Virgilio are young Caucasian males in their early thirties. Joey is slightly taller than his brother and has black, well-kempt hair. He wears a striped grey jacket with a red shirt underneath, a yellow necktie with rhomboid pattern, grey pants with a belt, black shoes and wields a Desert Eagle. Virgilio has blonde hair and a short stubble. He wears old-fashioned sunglasses, a yellow fedora hat, a purple jacket with red buttons and a matching necktie, grey pants, shoes and keeps a sawn-off shotgun.

Joey's voice is more high-pitched than Virgilio's. Both brothers speak with a heavy mix of Italian and New York accents.

Personality[]

Overall, both Finito brothers seem to share many traits with their less influential subordinates, like their thuggish, narrow-minded demeanor and a primitive sense of humor. They're prone to solving even the simplest issues with guns rather than peacefully, as seen when they immediately resort to trying to kill Max after he confronts them with the question about Jack Lupino's whereabouts. Their speech is coated in a thick layer of street slang and their childish attempts at insulting the protagonist in a humorous manner fall short, since they mostly rely on bad puns.

Given the hotel's main commoners and its state of disrepair, it can be concluded that Finitos are not too efficient at doing their job of managing their property and looking after the well-being of its visitors, as it contains at least two dead bodies of the savagely murdered mobsters. This, however, comes as no surprise, knowing the hotel's purpose of being a front for all sorts of shady deeds and the fact that Max refers to them as "a couple of murdering mobsters, with shark smiles", meaning that taking someone's life is a routine for the siblings.

They also appear to hold their higher-up, Vinnie Gognitti, in a substantial contempt, considering that the latter's photo can be found on the wall of their office, strapped to a dart board, which is once again not astonishing, given his letter's threatening tone and the man's arrogant, obnoxious behavior. Other than that, the brothers have a proclivity to echo each other's responses and speak in turns, finishing the latter's sentence, which is not uncommon among closely related siblings.
