Flora Pereira da Silva is the main antagonist of the Brazilian soap opera A Favorita. She was revealed as the true killer of her true love and from her childhood friend, Donatela, who she is obsessed with.
She was portrayed by Patrícia Pillar.
Biography[]
The central plot of the soap opera is based on Flora, who was sentenced to eighteen years in prison for the murder of Donatela's husband, her best friend, and companion in the musical duo they formed.
Upon leaving prison, she will fight to prove her innocence, accusing the former friend of the crime for which she had to pay with her freedom. Donatela, meanwhile, was the one who raised Lara, Flora's daughter with her dead husband, the only heiress of the Brazilian biggest's paper and cellulose empire. He also gave refuge to the former representative Silveirinha, using him as a butler.
The duo Faísca and Espoleta ("Flash and Fusee") became successful at the time, but their career is interrupted after a tour, in which the two meet friends Marcelo and Dodi, with whom they put on brides and get engaged.
Donatela marries the millionaire Marcelo, son of the powerful Gonçalo Fontini, owner of a pulp and paper industry and Flora marries Dodi, an unscrupulous man who works in the company of his friend's father. But the happiness of Donatela and Marcelo is short-lived. The first son of the marriage, Mateus (who, unbeknownst to Donatela, is none other than the adoptive son of her best friend Cilene, now named Halley) is kidnapped with two years of age by Silveirinha, in an attempt to get rid of any other who could take the main heir's place in the Fontini's family will never appear. Since then, the couple's relationship will get cloudy and will no longer be the same once the kidnappers never make even once an attempt to make a deal with the hostage and it looked like (by Donatela and Marcelo's point of view) that their kid was death in an unsolved case.
Flora, meanwhile, separates from Dodi and has an affair with Marcelo, as a result of which she becomes pregnant and gives birth to a girl, Lara, which exacerbates the crisis between Donatela and Marcelo and, more than anything, between the two friends. In full discord between Flora and Donatela, Marcelo is killed with three shots fired with the revolver that, according to a witness, was in Flora's hand. Caught red-handed, she is arrested and drastically separated from her daughter Lara, at the time, with only three years of age. United in the past, Donatela and Flora take completely different directions.
Flora, sentenced to 18 years in prison for the murder of Marcelo, believes that Donatela took everything she had: Marcelo's fortune, theirs promise of happiness and be always together and Lara, his only daughter, who, to top it off, says "mother" to the "murderer" of his father, all from the point of view of Flora, who always said she was imprisoned for a crime she did not commit.
With Flora leaving prison, Lara more than ever becomes the center of dispute between the two women who, one day, were friends. While the mission in Flora's life will be to approach her daughter again, Donatela will do everything to prevent that from happening.
Faced with Donatella's threat with a gun, Flora replies: "You will not, you have no courage, you are not a murderer like me." This is how through Donatella's flashback we see that it was Flora who killed Marcelo for real. Then Donatella is tricked by Dodi who is allied with Flora and meets Dr. Salvatore, whom Flora kills with three shots with the gun Donatella had previously aimed at her, so the fingerprints on the gun are from Donatella, and she is accused of this crime, once Flora was wearing gloves to not let fingerprints from herself. Donatella is taken to the prison and tortured by Zezé, Flora's friend and accomplice.
Gonçalo gets access to the DVD filmed by Dodi that shows Flora shooting Salvatore, Flora learns and murders Gonçalo in horror movie style, making filet and steak's blood looks like it was from Lara and Irene's corpuses , she causes a heart attack in him and reveals that he exchanged his remedies for sugar pills, Gonçalo dies of heart attack. With this, Flora assumes the position of president of the Fontini company, on her first day as the new president of the company, she communicates to all workers with a speech. Léo, one of her workers mocks her for being a woman, Flora hears everything and dislikes, she fires Leo.
Then, Diva/Rosana tells Donatela that she has a plan that is to impersonate her to escape and after a fire in Donatella's cell, they all think that she died and Donatella thinks that it is Diva who died but is one of the dams. Donatella goes to Pepe Molinos' bar to hide there. After a while, he goes to the farm of Augusto César, a very rich but retired singer who went crazy and thinks that Diva/Rosana was taken by extraterrestrials. When Donatella arrives, he assures that it is Rosana who returned from his mission and his son Shiva knows that he is not his mother but after a while, the trio will take affection.
As soon as taking control, Floras started a plan to ruin the Fontini's company, by fusing it with an american paper company that was almost broken, unbeknownst to the general public, receiving five hundred million dollars by the deal. Flora even manipulated a random minion to buy the Fontini's farm and torment every and each one of her enemies by showing how she deceived them. After discovering that Donatela was alive, Flora takes all her resourses to find and arrest her again. But Flora's obssecion with a bright future just between she and Donatela let her vulnerable to be manipulated into confess all her crimes after believe that she killed Donatela, unbeknownst that they were being whatched for a 50 person's crowd. Flora attempted to kill Donatela and Zé Bob for real in their honeymoon, making the couple hostages and gloating about how she destroyed everyone who ruined her plans, but is shoot in the shoulder by Lara, her on daughter, and arrested once and for all.
In the final chapter, Flora is arrested and sentenced to forty years in prison for her crimes, on her return in jail she is confronted by Diva who has already been released and is leaving, and then is beaten by the other inmates that she helped Zezé to detain them, but once Zezé isn't there anymore to help Flora, she is leave alone to face all of her former enemies inside jail. While in the laundry washing dirty bed sheets, a woman named Luzia introduces herself to her, Flora in a delirium introduces herself as Donatela.
Personality[]
When she gets out of jail, Flora initially proves to be a kind woman wronged by life who is determined to win back her daughter's love, however this is all a front to hide its true nature. Flora is actually a monstrous, cold, calculating woman who saves no effort to achieve her goals. Flora is a skilled manipulator capable of deceiving everyone with her false kind personality being her easiest victim Irene, of whom she took advantage of the hatred she has for Donatela and calmly saying every and all thing that Irene wanted to listen about her daughter in law.
Flora is smart and agile always managing to get rid of evidence that end her plans, as when her father, Pedro will show the Fontini the DVD that shows her killing Salvatore and ends up showing the wrong DVD (changing it for a kid's TV show), making him looks crazy and she a caring daughter worried with her father weak mental state. That manipulation was set up in minutes and gave she all tool to fool the ones around her.
Flora is monstrosity in her essence, being a totally obsessed and dangerous woman who is capable of the worst atrocities to get what she wants, being it Donaleta's exclusive love or the Fontini's fortune (as Flora beilives that it was what ruined her future with Donatela). She is so bad that her personality is hopeless; she hates everyone around her, including her own daughter Lara, whom she despises, even mocking her about how similar both of they are and always will be sort after Lara shots Flora's shoulder, claim it was just bloodlust and not justice that make Lara shot. And even her own father, Pedro, isn't save from her rage, whom she poisoned and tried to kill in numerous attempts to advance her goals.
It was revealed that as a child, Flora used to mistreat animals and has tried to burn Donatela alive. Flora also shows a great prejudice with the elderly, as seen in several scenes in which she mocks Irene and Gonçalo always called Irene "velha safada", "toupeira" and Gonçalo as "velho babão"(very gross ways to talk about people in general, in special elderly), later she does same with Silveirinha and his mother in which she mocks Angelina's physical condition. Even long before of Marcelo showing up, Donatela had numerous cases in which Flora was explosive and controlling around her. Marcelo just made worse what was always dangerous within Flora.
