Flywheels is a minor antagonist in Generation One of the Transformers franchise. He was based on a figure released in 1987.
Marvel Comics[]
Flywheels' only Marvel US appearance was in the Headmasters miniseries, where he was seen among the troops accompanying Scorponok to Nebulos. This was ignored in his Marvel UK appearances, where he was seen operating on Cybertron. He first appeared in the "City of Fear" storyline, where he was one of the Decepticons blockading the city of Kalis. He attacked Ultra Magnus and the Sparkabots but was knocked unconscious and brought into the city as their prisoner. There, Flywheels explained the reason for the blockade: Zombies had been rising inside Kalis, with his words being proved true when the zombies attacked and Flywheels had to fight them alongside his captors. Realising the zombies were being controlled by a signal, Ultra Magnus took Flywheels with him to shut it down, reluctantly giving him a gun to cover his back. Flywheels kept his word, protecting Ultra Magnus from a stray zombie after the signal was shut down.
Having traced the signal to deep underground, Ultra Magnus reluctantly let Flywheels go to get reinforcements. To the Autobots' surprise, Flywheels returned with Trypticon and helped them to fight through more zombies and infiltrate the bunker of the insane Autobot scientist Flame, who had been trying to activate an unstable fusion reactor. Flywheels fled the scene with the Autobots, as the zombified Impactor sacrificed himself to shut the reactor down.
Flywheels reappeared in "Time Wars" as a member of the Decepticon Mayhem Squad, who allied themselves with the Autobot Wreckers to track down the errant future Decepticon Galvatron. However, with Galvatron backed up by Megatron, the subsequent battle was a massacre for both the Mayhems and the Wreckers. Flywheels was one of the few Mayhems to live long enough to obey Carnivac's order to retreat back to their ship and was killed by Galvatron in the subsequent battle outside the ship.
Trivia[]
- Ironically, despite being a Decepticon, both Flywheels' major appearances saw him allied with the Autobots against a common enemy.
