| “ | My sons, I had hoped this day would never come. I know who these people are. I have always known. This is the symbol of the Foot Ninja. Their leader of Oroku Saki but he has another name. He is... The Shredder. I have often told you of my beloved Master Yoshi but now you need to know who Saki, The Shredder, really is. He serves no great purpose, he fights no great evil. He is great evil. Any endeavor he undertakes, he does for his own selfish gain. | „ |
| ~ Splinter describing the Utrom Shredder and the Foot Clan to the Ninja Turtles. |
The Foot Clan are an ancient ninja clan founded by the Utrom war criminal knowns as Ch'rell, under the guise of the Utrom Shredder, with the objective of finding and destroying his Utrom enemies and establishing a criminal empire. They serve as the main antagonists of the 2003 Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles animated series.
History[]
Past[]
After causing his Utrom prison ship to crash-land in feudal Japan, Ch'rell built an exo-suit body and assembled an army of morally dubious ninjas to serve him in his battle against Mortu and his enemies. The war eventually reached a stalemate after repeated burnings of villages and Ch'rell defeats with the Utroms going into hiding. These ninjas would eventually form the basis for the modern Foot Clan who were formed by Ch'rell, now under the alias of Oroku Saki, to aid in his goals of revenge and returning to the wider universe to conquer everything.
At some point in modern times, Ch'rell, as Shredder, adopted and trained an orphan named Karai, to whom he left the duty of watching over the Foot Clan's Japanese branch. Saki himself went to New York, where the Shredder established himself as Oroku Saki, a billionaire businessman and took over the criminal underworld; gaining a right-hand man in the form of Hun of the Purple Dragons and scientist Baxter Stockman.
TMNT 2003[]
The Foot Clan continue to rule New York's underworld until four Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles stop a group of Purple Dragons who try to steal an armored car full of money and then stop Baxter Stockman's Mousers from robbing banks in New York. Finally, the Shredder manages to retrieve the Sword of Tengu, along with one of the Utrom's exo-suits, so he knows that they are still around but the Turtles retrieve it and the Shredder decides to get rid of them, assigning Hun and Stockman to find some way to deal with them. Hun manages to capture Raphael, then lets him go so Stockman's Foot Tech Ninjas can follow him. The plan fails, but from what Hun finds out from Raphael, the Shredder learns that the Turtles are unaware about the Utrom, so they could be useful to him. This plan ultimately fails as well with the Shredder being knocked down an seemingly crushed to death under a water tower.
After Ch'rell is finally captured and imprisoned on the ice planet Mor Gal Tal for life, Karai takes up the mantle of the New Shredder and assumes command of the Foot Clan with Dr. Chaplin as her second in command. Although initially as hostile to the Turtles as ever, the Foot Clan eventually grows more amiable terms and fights with them against the forces of the Tengu Shredder and later the Cyber Shredder; a version of the Utrom Shredder created in cyberspace by Ch'rell himself.
After the Shredder from the universe of the 1987 Universe ends up in that of the main universe, he begins looking for his counterpart; locating and unthawing Ch'rell. However, it does not work as the 1987 Shredder had hoped, since his Utrom counterpart proceeds to take de facto control of the Technodrome with help from Karai who had been monitoring his exile and tracked him to the Technodrome. He uses technology from Krang's body to construct a more powerful exo-suit for himself and upgrades the Technodrome with Utrom technology. [[Bebop and Rocksteady (Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles)]|Bebop and Rocksteady]] two mutants who worked for the '87 Shredder now join Ch'rell because he finds them amusing. Invariably though, Karai and her forces turn on her adoptive father due to his status as the greater threat and help to defeat him for good.
Although the Foot Clan are currently redeemed, Splinter says that the Shredder is seldom gone for long and Karai agrees that he will return; leaving their future morale status in the air as of right now.
Alternate Timeline[]
In an alternate timeline that Ultimate Drako sends Donatello to in order to prevent interference in his conquest of time, the Ninja Turtle arrives in a dystopian world where the Utrom Shredder reigns supreme. In this world, Ch'rell's war against the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles continued as in the main timeline until his final plan came to transport himself to the Utrom Homeworld and enslave his own race. For reasons unknown, the Utrom Shredder was never stopped; slaughtering his entire race before bringing them back as lobotomized zombies in exosuits. Together, they conquered the Earth and the Shredder himself killed Master Splinter and Casey whilst destroying their home. In a final climatic battle though, Donatello manages to wipe out the Foot Clan and save the world before being sent to The Nexus.
