The Forces of Amon are the overarching antagonists of the StarCraft franchise, as well as the main antagonists of the real time strategy game StarCraft II: Legacy of the Void.

They are a union of various factions affiliated with the rogue Xel'Naga Amon and are comprised of Zerg, Protoss, Terrans and other creatures who are (willingly or otherwise) in service to Amon. They seek to aid their master in his goal of destroying life to put an end to the Infinite Cycle of rebirth conceived of by the Xel'Naga.

Affiliates[]

Rogue Xel'Naga[]

Among Amon's first followers were a group of fallen Xel'Naga who agreed with his philosophies of putting an end to the Infinite Cycle and destroying all of the Xel'Naga's creation in order to create a universe ideal for themselves. While Amon had many other Xel'Naga serving him originally y the time of the present day in StarCraft, the only Xel'Naga left alive and in service to him was Samir Duran.

Tal'darim[]

The Tal'darim are a group of Protoss who were taken away from the other Protoss by Amon and brought to the Sigma Quadrant, where Amon left them. This led to the Tal'darim developing a much more divergent society from the other Protoss with a warlike and Darwinistic culture that believed in the rule of the strong. The Tal'darim worship Amon as the one true God and believe that, through loyal service to Amon, they will one day ascend to live alongside him when he returns, unaware that they are just pawns who will eventually be destroyed by Amon along with the rest of creation when they are no longer useful.

When Amon's return became imminent, the Tal'darim began their work to carry out Amon's crusade and initiated a crusade against the Terrans, Zerg and other Protoss races in the galaxy.

Eventually however, after Amon's true intentions became known and they realized that they too would be destroyed, the Tal'darim separated from Amon and joined the other forces opposed to the fallen Xel'Naga in fighting him.

Zerg[]

The Zerg began as a species on the planet Zerus until they were discovered by Amon and his group of rogue Xel'Naga, who bestowed upon them "purity of essence" in contrast to the "purity of form" possessed by the Protoss. The Zerg were thus converted into a hive mind by Amon, with the Overmind being created to serve as the leader of the Zerg Swarm. The Zerg who fled to avoid this fate and preserve their individuality became known as "Primal Zerg". Amon intended to one day merge the Zerg with the Protoss to create perfect Hybrids which would be his servants in the new universe he hoped to create.

During Amon's war with the rest of the Xel'Naga, the Zerg were used to exterminate all the Xel'Naga not loyal to Amon, leaving few survivors. However, the Overmind was aware of Amon's true ambitions and, after Amon was sealed within the Void, began planning a way to free the Zerg and subvert Amon's control over them. Aware that it was programmed to ensure the Zerg would remain absolutely loyal to them, the Overmind sought to raise a successor that would be free from Amon's influence. Eventually, it found an ideal candidate in the psionic Terran Sarah Kerrigan and, after assimilating her to become the Zerg Queen of Blades, positioned her to succeed it as controller of the Zerg. After the Overmind was destroyed and the Cerebrates, Zerg generals created from the Overmind's own consciousness, were purged, Kerrigan became the new ruler of the Zerg and the Zerg were freed from Amon's influence.

However, some Zerg that had not been assimilated into Kerrigan's Swarm for a variety of different reasons were later absorbed into a brood loyal to Amon, becoming known as the "Amon Brood".

Moebius Foundation[]

The Moebius Foundation began as a scientific research organization within the Terran Dominion created by Crown Prince Valerian Mengsk for the purpose of studying Xel'Naga and other alien artifacts. Unbeknownst to Valerian or his father, Emperor Arcturus Mengsk, the appointed head of the Foundation, Emil Narud, was really Amon's loyal Xel'Naga follower in disguise yet again. The true purpose of the Moebius Foundation was as a front to create Zerg-Protoss Hybrids for use by Amon in his army. As Zerg and Protoss genetics could not synthesize naturally, true Hybrids could only be conceived through artificial means. While Valerian and Mengsk were aware of the Foundation's experiments with hybridizing Zerg and Protoss genetics, they were not aware of what Duran/Narud intended to use them for.

Eventually, the Moebius Foundation was assimilated into the rest of Amon's forces, with their security forces, the Moebius Corps, being corrupted to serve Amon. The facilities of the Moebius Foundation continued to be used by Amon's Forces to churn out more and more Hybrids for his army.

Hybrids[]

The Hybrids are creatures created from an artificial synthesis of Zerg and Protoss genetics. They were engineered by Amon and his followers to serve as the center of Amon's Forces and are the only creatures which Amon intends to serve him into his new ideal universe. Because the Psionic nature of the Protoss naturally rejects the Zerg, Protoss-Zerg hybrids can only be conceived artificially through combining their genetics in a lab.

Golden Armada[]

The Golden Armada began as a Protoss fleet created by Hierarch Artanis on Shakuras for the purpose of retaking the Protoss home world Aiur from the Zerg. However, during their campaign to retake the planet, Amon corrupted the Golden Armada into serving him and caused them to turn against the other Protoss. The Golden Armada subsequently aided Amon's other forces in carrying out his will and attacking all enemies of Amon.

However, using a Xel'Naga keystone, Artanis' forces were able to sever Amon's influence over the Golden Armada and free them from his corruption.

Zhakul Guardians[]

The Zhakul Guardians began as a collection of Protoss on Zhakul whose purpose was to guard the three preservers lying there. However, the majority of them were later corrupted by the Hybrid Maar and used to attack the other Protoss. The Zhakul Guardians were later freed from their enslavement when Zeratul destroyed Maar.

Void Entities[]

Void entities are being originating from the Void that Amon is able to summon by opening Void rifts. Among these entities, there are the Void Shades, beings made of void energy that take on the form of Terran, Protoss and Zerg army units, though they are weaker than their physical counterparts while outside the Void. Another notable type of Void entity are Void Thrashers, large creatures that are most commonly used to attack from long distances.
