The Forebrothers Signis and Gron are minor antagonists in Hollow Knight: Silksong. They are a pair of brothers who serve as the elder overseers of the Deep Docks and its miners.
Appearance[]
The Forebrothers are anthropomorphic bugs who wear bells on their heads. Signis has a golden bell helmet and wields a double bladed staff. Gron has a long silver bell helmet and wields a spear. Both of their weapons are tipped with sharpened flintgems.
Biography[]
Little is known about the origins of the Forebrothers, other than they serve as the overseers of the miners in the Deep Docks. Even after losing their minds from the Haunting, they continue their work, bringing punishment to the lesser workers who fail their expectations.
The Forebrothers can be encountered in the bottom section of the Deep Docks, requiring a Simple Key to enter and the Clawline to open a door. Gron will attack Hornet in an earlier room by tossing spears at her, jumping between platforms before fleeing to the top of the ceiling. Once reaching the boss room, Signis can be found lecturing a Smelt Shoveller and a Flintstone Flyer. Once Hornet gets close enough, Signis attacks while the others flee.
Signis attacks by swinging his staff at Hornet, which can do in a combo slash or by flinging it away and it flies back to him like a boomerang. He can also let out a shout which will summon a Flintstone Flyer or a Smokerock Sifter. After losing enough room, Gron will join the fray who attacks by tossing his spear at Hornet. He can also jump above her spot and dive down.
Once one of the Forebrothers is defeated, the other will attack at a noticeably faster pace. Additionally, a flow of lava will occasionally fall from the center of the arena, dealing minor damage to the remaining Forebrother. Once he goes down, the pathway opens to allow Hornet to venture the lower portions of the Deep Docks, including the diving bell necessary to reach the Abyss.
Trivia[]
- While the Forebrothers are required to defeat to continue Act III, it is possible to enter their arena in an earlier Act.
- Unused coding in the game's files suggest they were suppose to drop a Silk Heart following defeat.
