~ Four asking the sixty-four contestants if they want to battle to win his BFDI. |
Four Integer is the secondary antagonist of the YouTube animated web series Battle for Dream Island, and is the main protagonist of the non-canon X Finds Out His Value video from 2008 and the non-canon subcount series.
Although he appeared for the first time in the non-canon 2008 video X Finds Out His Value alongside his best friend and co-host X. Four is shown to be an abstract being representing a real-life mathematical symbol.
He is voiced by Michael Huang; co-creator of the Battle for Dream Island series who also voices Flower, Blocky, Snowball, Golf Ball, Pencil, Puffball and many other characters in the same show, as well as Tyler Bombard in Inanimate Insanity.
Appearance[]
“ | Liy: What's this? Pie: I dunno, try squishing it [Liy proceeds to squish Four, which causes him to make groaning sounds] Saw: Hey! Don't squish that, You don't know what it does! |
„ |
~ Liy upon seeing Four for the first time, as she proceeds to squish him, revealing his body texture is a squishy one. |
In early episodes, Four is a poorly drawn version of the open arabic numeral four, he has a blue wretched body, with white eyes with black pupils and limbs that are lightly-colored, however in late episodes, he is drawn more consistently and neater. However, he may be drawn sloppily at times. His body is also stated to be squishy as evidenced in "Getting Teardrop to Talk" when Liy squishes him out of curiosity to know what he is.
Four is also stated to be genderless as evidenced in ''Enter the Exit'' where he confirms that in his homeworld, gender isn't something that exists. However, the contestants oftenly refer to Four by he/him pronouns.
Personality[]
At first, he appears to be a calm individual, but in reality, he is the opposite of calm. He attempts to severely injure/murder different contestants with different methods, like mutilating them, using a powerful electric beam (known as "Zappies"), and by unleashing a powerful screech that can do mass damage to others, even causing them to faint.
He appears to have some friends, but he can be very hurtful to them. One good example of this is when X returns after the Cake at Stake ceremony in "Why Would You Do This on a Swingset", he comments that nobody noticed X was gone, and X proceeds to cry. Cloudy comments that he noticed X was gone.
Despite his usual insanity and cruelty, Four sometimes shows a more compassionate side to himself. While he was initially angry upon finding out that X hosted BFB in his absence, he patted his head and said "Good job!" He also accepts favors from the contestants to revive the dead and even thanked Pin with a Gratitude Token (though he took it away afterwards when Leafy rejoined). "The Escape from Four" shows a more sympathetic side of Four as well as possibly explaining his psychology and motivations. He is childish and has an obsession with being in control, as seen when he said "Everyone needs to stay with me forever!". He gets extremely mad when things don't go his way, to the point where he calls his provokers dehumanizing insults. He hates being abandoned to the point where he breaks down crying, and even told X to leave after assuming that he would leave him too.
In "Chapter Complete", it is shown that he has an insecure side. He gets worried that no one likes him as a host and that he would be better off without them. However, at the end, he realized the errors of his ways after hearing that the contestants enjoyed his hosting and has changed from a self-arrogant to a kind-hearted individual, who treats the others better from then onwards.
However, he is a much kinder individual in the short, “X Finds Out His Value”, where he helps X learn his value, teaching him how to find it out. It is revealed to be 7, who he and X dance with, implying they are good friends.
Biography[]
As stated above, Four first appeared in the video X Finds Out His Value, though he did not display any antagonistic behavior, he was more or less a mentor figure and had no evil intents.
His first appearance within the Battle for Dream Island canon was in the first episode of the fourth season, Battle for BFDI. In it, he shrinks Black Hole and brings him to Earth after he almost destroyed Earth. Shortly after, Book asks him what does he do. He then proceeds to kill Pin by mutilating her. After Coiny asks him to bring her back, he refuses. After X's introduction, Donut says "So what do you want, murderer?", and then he screeches at him, causing him to faint. The same quote is asked by Taco and she is once again screeched, but before he completes screeching her, X (his friend) says "No more screechy please!" and Four proceeds to screech at him and X faints.
After Dora says something to Four, Four agrees, and Four starts to host the fourth season of Battle for Dream Island, Battle for BFDI.
Throughout the game, Four has demonstrated a villainous behavior, such as murdering, injuring, or otherwise harming the contestants, and has little concern over their well being.
He has harmed X emotionally and physically, which is odd because he is seemingly his best friend. In Why Would You Do This on a Swingset, he says "nobody noticed you were gone" and X cries. It is implied that he cut off X's limbs in Fortunate Ben. Though he was kind to Pin in giving her a Gratitude Token, he eventually took it back in exchange for putting Leafy on The Losers!.
Until BFB 16, he continued as the show's host. On BFB 16, Two shows up and asks 40 of the BFB contestants to quit the game and joins his. Four becomes upset that only 14 stayed and asks X to go with Two, who sends the BFB team to the Pillary Ruins.
On BFB 17, Four becomes depressed that X is not with him anymore and makes a challenge to get X back by splitting the remaining 14 to 2 teams of 7 by how close of color they are. The show continued normally after that.
After BFB 26, Four becomes mad that Profily keeps winning the challenges and eliminates them. This causes more outsiders to interfere with the game and causes him and the final 5 to leave the ruins and flee to the desert.
On BFB 28, the Announcer returns to take his show back. Four gets mad and sinks into the ground, causing the sand to be blue and the cacti to be 4 shaped.
On BFB 30, Four becomes mad that the Have Cots, Leafy aside, Loser, and X keep following him as he wants to be in peace. Gelatin points out all of Four's deeds, which causes Four to redeem himself and make up with the Announcer (but this is brief, as he becomes a villain again in TPOT).
In TPOT 6, he and X return to cook food for the hotel. During the episode, he's seen to be protective to the kitchen, stopping anyone who tries to get food. He fails to stop The Strongest Team on Earth from getting the food. In the post credits scene, every TPOT contestant attempts to rob the kitchen, only to be mutilated by Four and zapped by X.
Powers and Abilities[]
“ | I do this! | „ |
~ Four's first lines, moments before mutilating Pin. |
Four exhibits very surreal mannerisms through the season, including:
- Ultipotence (most likely): Four possesses seemingly unlimited power in the series. Four's powers could have a galactic to multi-galactic, possibly even universal scale of power if fully used.
- Ear-deafening Screech: Stuns any contestant who's targeted by said screech. It can also generate hearts when Four shows love or excitement towards something, which can fling a contestant as shown with Eraser.
- Energy Beam Projection: Beams that shoot out of his hands and electrocute anybody who is hit by them, making them lose health. Although Four has to seemingly charge up at times (possibly for a longer duration, constant beam), he can also fire them instantly.
- Advanced-level reality-warping: Four can create objects such as cakes, buttons, pillars, Paper Planes, Buzzer Boxes, soup, orange dye, and jawbreakers out of thin air. Not only can he revive contestants, but he can also revive them in a place other than his hand, as seen in "Lick Your Way to Freedom" when he revived the contestants in jawbreakers he also created. Also, as seen with paper planes, he can likely manipulate the laws of physics.
- Gravitokinesis: Donut, while inhabited by the factor of Four, was able to turn on and off the effects of gravity. This ability can be refined to only affect certain entities, as Donut only manipulated gravity's effects on the moon.
- Four was able to crush down a planet-sized Black Hole into a significantly less voluminous state and near nullifying Black Hole's normally intense gravity.
- Shape-shifting: As shown in "What Do You Think of Roleplay?", both Four and X can shape-shift, or change their physical appearance. Also, they can change the shape of other characters as well. They can shapeshift into anything, even inside of themselves.
- Size manipulation: In "Return of the Rocket Ship", Four grows to an absurd size in response to Pillow's criticism.
- Brain manipulation: In BFB 12, Four displayed the power to augment and transfer the brains/personalities of the contestants into each other; however, instead of going back to their original bodies, the body that the person's mind was in shape-shifted into that mind's original body.
- Perspective violation: Four can violate common 2D perspective laws such as sliding in front of objects on the ground and suddenly switching to behind objects on the ground.
- Incredible volume: Four can raise his voice so that it can even be heard through the far reaches of space.
- Controlling and morphing clouds: He has used this to time contests that require a time limit to show how much time is currently left.
- Donut is seen doing this in "Four Goes Too Far", but it is most likely via the "factor of Four."
- Earth bending: In "Take the Tower", Four rose his hands up to cause 2 hills to rise under the team's towers.
- Gravitokinesis: Donut, while inhabited by the factor of Four, was able to turn on and off the effects of gravity. This ability can be refined to only affect certain entities, as Donut only manipulated gravity's effects on the moon.
- Mutilation: Turns any contestant into an abstract version of themselves, killing them. A harp strum plays in the process.
- Inception/Astral projection: Four cannot only enter himself to talk to the "exitors", but is also able to still do that when he is already inside himself, as shown when he inserted his arm inside himself again to pick up Leafy in "Get to the Top in 500 Steps". His arm also appeared to be larger than normal, which suggests that anything that enters shrinks (except Four).
- Teleportation: He can teleport whenever a "4" has been played shown in "Today's Very Special Episode". He could also teleport others with a snap of his fingers in "What Do You Think of Roleplay?".
- Thought manipulation: During the Cake at Stake in "The Four is Lava", Four displayed the ability to create positive thoughts (or happy thoughts) and send them to the safe contestants of . It is unknown if Four has the ability to create other kinds of thoughts at the moment.
- Air controllability: As shown in "A Taste of Space", Four can give people air, even in the vacuums of space.
- Brain Scanning: As shown in "Who Stole Donut's Diary" Four shoots a laser (similar style to Zappies) at X's head and receives their thoughts and finds out who stole Donut's Diary.
- Malleability: As seen in "Enter the Exit" and "The Four is Lava", Four's body and limbs can stretch to extreme distances and can change shape at will. He can also contract extremely thin in "The Escape from Four".
- Recovery: Four replaces the Recovery Centers from previous seasons by using only his hand to recover contestants.
- Elimination: Four replaces the Tiny Loser Chamber, Locker of Losers, and the Weak Trembling Fortress from previous seasons, by sucking up eliminated contestants or "eating" them. From there, the eliminated contestants are sent to "Eternal Algebra Class Withfour" (EXIT). EXIT also appears to be an alternate plane of existence, because the contestants probably shrink.
- Super-speed: Four can fly at extreme speeds, as shown in "Enter the Exit".
- Dismemberment: This happened off-screen when X interrupted Four. He had snapped off X's leg. This is unknown to be a power or not, however, as it wasn't known exactly how Four snapped X's leg.
- Flight: In "Enter the Exit", Four was able to fly over to the Waterfall to eliminate Roboty.
- Regeneration: In "Enter the Exit", when the contestants were recovering Four, he was in a liquidated state to the point he was reformed back to normal.
- Fire resistance (external): Four is able to stand on the lava and dig his hands into it as well.
- Intelligence: Four can understand Insulavoric (Dora's language) and Teardrop's sign language perfectly even though Insulavoric is supposed to be one of the hardest languages to learn. This was also shown in "Who Stole Donut's Diary" as when Woody was on Trial Four was able to translate his entire Story.
- Despawning: As shown in "The Game Has Changed", Four can "despawn" people. Although we don't know how Four does this exactly since he apparently has to be offscreen, a white glow is shown.
Weaknesses[]
“ | Golf Ball: Any number times zero equals zero, right? Tennis Ball: That may be true, but, how is that useful? Golf Ball: Four's a number. Let's multiply him by zero. |
„ |
~ Golf Ball explaining how plan on how to stop Four's ruthlessness, as well as revealing one of his weaknesses. |
- Numerical multiplication: Four itself can be multiplied by a zero or Donut to 'kill' Four. However, Four can be extracted out of the product of multiplication. During the time that Four is inside the product, the said product gains some of Four's abilities. This happened once in "Four Goes Too Far."
- Limited strength/Exhaustion: Four was unable to eliminate and suck in Spongy completely in "The Escape from Four".
- Burn tolerance: Four can become incapacitated if he comes into contact with fire (presumably from the inside, which is unusual given his resistance to lava).
- Liquifying: Four can become into a liquid like substance if crushed too hard, making him become a puddle, though thanks to their shape-shifting, can turn back into their solid form

Trivia[]
- A running gag involving Four is that he often changes his expression to a face with angry eyebrows and a wide smile, while staring at the screen.
- He appears to have to ability to translate Woody and Dora.
- He appears in the HTwins.net game Tidepool, as a level 23 creature in the "Classic" character set.
- Cary described Four as a "weird alien creature who doesn't know how to communicate" in his reaction video. If he is an alien, this could explain his strange powers, general behavioral quirks, different eye and limb assets, and his screeching.
- Another implication that he is an alien was shown in "Enter the Exit", in which he says, "We don't have that [gender] where I'm from", indicating that he is from another planet or another universe.
- In the first three episodes, Four starts the intro by raising his right arm in a fist, then the contestants assume the pose when the intro starts.
- Four can talk with his eyes, as shown in "Why Would You Do This on a Swingset".
- Four seems to hate the closed-form of four. (4)
- This is implied in "Today's Very Special Episode" when he, X, and the recommended characters deem Death P.A.C.T.'s makeover to be the worst one, while he ranks ABNTT's as the second-best makeover.
- If Four were to be multiplied by zero, or anything that resembles a zero (like Donut), he would teleport into the zero he was multiplied by.
- This was foreshadowed after Donut was multiplied by Four, he states that he had obtained the "factor of Four" within him, granting him some of the powers Four has. Also, when Four was recovered by Pin and Firey, they had to extract Four from the inside of Donut using a syringe before squeezing him into a four shape.
- When Four screeched at Tree in "Fortunate Ben," the screech was the original audio clip in reverse.
- Four tends to misname "A Better Name Than That" as "Another Name Than That," as heard in "Today's Very Special Episode" and "Get to the Top in 500 Steps".
- Four seems to have no gender along with X (despite them using he/they pronouns) because they don't have genders in the world they came from.
- This may imply that the other Algebraliens (The species Four and X belong to) have no genders either.
- Fittingly, Four's voice is four semitones higher than the original voice clip of their voice.
- His color and shape are similar to that of Minesweeper.
- Originally, Four was not supposed to be the host of BFB. This role was planned to be a spider, the spider was scrapped to make the host separate from the contestants.
- On TikTok, jacknjellify said that Four screeches when experiencing intense emotion.
