Frances is the main antagonist of the Doom Patrol Season 1 episode "Frances Patrol". He is an alligator who killed and ate Bump Wethers, Clara's adoptive father and Cliff Steele's former best friend.
Biography[]
Frances resides in Gator County, Florida in which he lurks in the lake and attacks and eats unsuspecting boat riders.
One day, Bump Wethers traveled into the lake with intention to kill Frances which was thought by his friends to be very stupid. It is unknown how much of a fight that Bump put up but it is most likely he was made quick work of by Frances who killed and ate him. Much later the news of Bumps death was shown on the news, telling the public that Bump had died from a fatal alligator attack. This news report was heard by Bump's old friend Cliff Steale who traveled with his friend Rita Farr to attend his funeral.
At his funeral, Cliff saw his long lost daughter Clara who was adopted by Bump after hiss supposed death but was too scared to talk to her. Cliff began to talk to Bump's friends and heard nothing but good things about him much to Cliff;s annoyance however one of them told them about Frances and how he was the alligator who killed Bump. Cliffs conversation is soon interrupted by Clara who says a speech for Bump. Clara thanks everyone, saying that Bump took her in after her father died. She explains that Bump adopted her when she turned 18, and Bump took care of her and asked nothing of her. Clara had a gold watch from Cliff inscribed saying that Bump was her hero, and he didn't want to waste any time. Bump went out to catch Frances and got eaten, and Carla says that no sense why he did it but also no sense why he'd take her in. Carla offers a toast to Bump and everyone joins in.
Cliff wanting to feel better decides that he was going to go fight Frances for Clara and goes with Rita to the lake on a rowboat. Rita continues to argue saying that it is dangerous and Cliff eventually gives in and tells Rita to go back and he will follow. Despite his promises the water damages Cliffs robot body and causes him to be frozen right as Frances appears from the water and leaps at Cliff.
Cliff eventually gains his movement back and fights off Frances and is able to obtain the gold watch. Cliff walks back to the bar and leaves it for Clara to have without talking to her.
Frances's fate is unknown, as the fight with Cliff happened offscreen/ However, it is most likely Cliff killed him as he would have to reach into his stomach to obtain the watch.
