Frank is the main antagonist of Ip Man 3. He is a combatant property developer who appears in the first half of the movie before before battling Ip Man at the second half. After his battle with Ip Man ends in a draw, Frank disappears from the rest of the movie.

He was portrayed by heavyweight champion boxer Mike Tyson.

Biography

Frank first appears watching Cheung Tin-chi participating successfully in underground fights to earn extra money. He happens to be working with Ma King-sang, a local triad leader.

He orders Ma to acquire a piece of land occupied by the school where Ip Ching and Cheung Fung study. Ma asks for a month for it to be done, but is threatened into assuring that it will be done within two weeks.

Ma's attempt to get the school is unsuccessful thanks to both Ip Man and Cheung Tin-chi. Unhappy with Ma's failure, Frank dismisses him and sends his assassin known as Muay Thai Warrior to go after Ip Man.

While Ip Man is taking Wing-sing home from a medicine shop, Ip is attacked in an elevator by the Thai boxer - though manages to defeat him before the elevator reaches the ground floor.

Fat Po later tells Ip about Frank, who has resolved to eliminate Ip at all costs for obstructing his plans.

Ip Man decides to confront Frank in his office, where he engages Ip in a three-minute fight, promising to leave him alone if he can just last the three minutes. Ip is initially overwhelmed by his opponent's sheer muscle and force but begins turning the tide when he attacks Frank's lower half and they fight to a draw after the three minutes pass; Frank keeps his promise.

Frank was never seen for the rest of the movie.

Trivia

  • He can be considered the strongest opponent Ip Man has ever faced.
  • He is the first main antagonist to not be seriously injured in the fight with Ip Man.
  • He is one of the more honorable antagonists from Ip Man movies, as he keeps his promise to leave Ip Man alone after the fight and even stops literally in the middle of the attack, as fight bell dings.
