~ Frank Martin bragging about abusing women with Frederick Tucker. |
Frank Martin is the main antagonist of the Law & Order: Special Victims Unit episode "Stocks and Bondage". He is a corporate CEO and sexual sadist who, along with his partner in crime Frederick Tucker, tortures and murders a female employee.
He was portrayed by Geoffrey Nauffts, who also portrayed Brendan Keele in Law & Order: Criminal Intent.
Biography[]
Early life[]
Martin grew up poor in Tennessee and exhibited a cruel streak from a young age, tying young black girls to trees and sexually assaulting them with help from his childhood friend Frederick Tucker. However, they got away with it because they were minors and because their victims "were only colored girls".
As an adult, Martin moved to New York City and founded the investment firm Martin Global Fund, Inc., while Tucker became an insurance auditor for the Tennessee Department of Commerce and Insurance. Martin embezzled millions from his firm and laundered it through the diamond trade and a fake charity, while Tucker covertly cooked the books in the guise of performing audits. Martin introduced Tucker to New York's underground S&M clubs, where they were notorious for ignoring safe words and inflicting non-consensual pain upon female clubbers.
Martin and Tucker began "sharing" Layla Briggs, an analyst with the firm who was heavily involved in S&M, and who helped Martin launder the embezzled money. One night, Martin and Tucker had a threesome with Briggs that involved choking, but Tucker squeezed too hard and accidentally strangled her to death. Martin took the rope that Briggs used to perform autoerotic asphyxiation and made it look like she had hanged herself. He and Tucker then fled the scene, unaware that Briggs' whip contained $500,000 in diamonds that she had stolen from the firm.
"Stocks and Bondage"[]
Detectives Olivia Benson and Elliot Stabler of the NYPD's Special Victims Unit investigate Briggs' death as a homicide after finding the diamonds. They talk to Martin, who admits to knowing about her sexual habits but denies having a sexual relationship with her.
Eventually, their investigation turns up Martin and Briggs' embezzlement, as well as their membership in underground S&M clubs. SVU Captain Don Cragen also talks to a Vietnamese prostitute whom Martin had blackmailed into being his submissive by threatening to expose her as an illegal immigrant, as she tells him that Martin nearly killed her by choking her with a belt. When the SVU detectives show up at Martin's office with a warrant, however, they find that Martin is gone, having left behind only several shredded documents. It is soon revealed that Martin is also being investigated for fraud by the Tennessee Department of Commerce and Insurance, with Tucker performing the audit.
Benson and Stabler track down David Kelp, the head of the fake charity, only to find that Martin has murdered him. They interrogate Angela Torres, one of Martin's accomplices in the embezzlement and Kalp's girlfriend, and she tells them that Martin is staying at a nearby hotel. There, they find Tucker, who says that Martin had paid him off and let him have sex with Briggs, and that he had called him after he killed her. Tucker tells Benson and Stabler they can find Martin at his girlfriend Amy's apartment, but when they arrive, they find that Martin has vanished after giving Amy a black eye. Finally, they apprehend him at the airport, trying to leave town.
While Benson and Stabler question Martin, Cragen and Detectives John Munch and Brian Cassidy talk to Amy, who tells them about Martin and Tucker's histories of abusing women. She then gives them phone records that prove Martin called Tucker shortly before Briggs was killed. Trapped, Martin confesses to helping Tucker kill Briggs. They are both then sentenced to death and executed.
