Frank Mercer is the main antagonist in the 2019 racing video game Need For Speed: Heat. He is a corrupt chief of police who originally ran the Palm City's High-Speed Task force for the purpose of stopping nighttime street racing in the city for good.
He is voiced by Josh Coxx.
Biography[]
First, he establishes his group by setting an example with his loyal officer, Danny Shaw by his side, and threatening Joe, a street racer, at gunpoint after he almost is killed in a crash with his Polestar but decides to drive him away from Palm City instead of killing him.
Later, he appears giving a speech on the local, WAFFL 86 news about how street racing has no place on the streets and warns those to never try it or else they'll be arrested.
He then later appears giving more and more speeches the more The Player progresses and ambushes every plan he has.
It turns out, when The Player and Ana spy on the police force and their whereabouts, he was using the police force as a way to steal the street racer's cars and take them to the docks where a chop shop is located.
When seeing this truth, Mercer ties up Lucas at gunpoint at the garage and arrests The Player and Ana but it almost seems as if he is about to murder them but just then Lucas breaks free from the garage and uses Papi's Camaro to ram into Mercer's car and save The Player and Ana, and he even punches Mercer as the ultimate revenge.
After The Player with the help of Ana put all the evidence onto a laptop, with the help of Torres, Mercer dissapears for a while now that the truth about his task force came out.
After The Player lure the entire police force to the docks, a BMW M3 GTR flies out from one of the boxes and it's Frank Mercer who is driving it, attempting to escape. The Player and Ana in their car wreck the BMW and Mercer is now stranded with Officer Torres. He tells her that they can leave Palm City together but then she gets out her gun and points it at him with a loud bang being heard as it goes to black.
After that, the news reports that the officer's body has not been found, but police believe that Mercer died. Perhaps Torres only wounded Mercer, and he could later come to his senses and escape from Palm City.
Also, in one of the dialogues between Ana and the player, there is a story about a man who looks like Mercer, and Ana doubts that the former lieutenant was really killed. Perhaps Mercer is hiding somewhere and may even appear in future Need For Speed games.
Personality[]
He is a greedy, murderous, and corrupted police chief who uses his goal in ending public street racing so the public can assist him in his real mission: To steal every car from street racers for himself and his officers. He has no mercy for street racers or even for his fellow officers. He is also criminal-minded and is possibly willing to murder those who interfere with his plans.
Apperance[]
He is a middle-aged man who has grey hair and is shaved, and commonly wears his police uniform. He never appears in pursuits as an actual unit, nor does his assistant, Officer Danny Shaw. He drives a black Ford Explorer Police Vehicle.
