Man and beast. Metal and flesh, bound by fire. Then i will reach the other side, and see what it is to be eternal, to be divine.
~ Frank in his diary

Frank Stone, later known as The Champion, is the titular secondary antagonist of The Casting of Frank Stone. A serial killer responsible for numerous deaths in Cedar Hills, Frank's reign of terror was eventually felled in 1963 at the hands of Sam Green. However, Frank did not truly die that night and would return decades later to terrorize the film crew of Murder Mill within the Cedar Steel Mill.

He was portrayed by Matt Mordak.

Biography[]

Franklin Norman Stone was born either in 1926 or 1927 and was raised by his grandmother and struggled to make friends.

Eventually, in 1956, Frank committed assault and was sent to a psychiatric hospital, Frank Stone had numerous sessions with Dr. Augustine Lieber, who began to manipulate his fragile mental state into delusions of importance and the idea of a "higher calling". To that end, and according to her instructions, Frank committed a series of gruesome murders, each with different instruments and methods to disguise his guilt as the perpetrator of these seemingly unrelated crimes. Some of his victims were never found. During all of this, he began to have dreams of the Entity's realm.

In 1963, as part of a ritual to summon the Entity, Frank prepared to sacrifice a kidnapped infant within the Cedar Steel Mill until the intervention of Sam Green. In the ensuring struggle, Frank was shot in the head by Sam, falling into the active furnace and impaled on the sharp molten spikes that lay inside hard enough to remove his lower jaw. However, due to the supernatural circumstances of that night, Frank's essence was burned into the foundations of the mill itself despite his death, waiting for the right spark to be resurrected.

In 1980 while creating their independent film Murder Mill, Chris, Jaime, Linda, Robert and Bonnie used the mill as a filming location and discovered a hidden room where some of Frank's victim's remains were still preserved. Upon filming where Frank's essence remained with a special camera they previously picked up, the group unknowingly resurrected Frank's spirit to return as a supernatural being akin to an undead ghost. Only able to be seen by the camera itself, Frank hunted the group down through the mill and (potentially) killed a number of them in the process. It is only thanks to the efforts of the survivors and an older Sheriff Green that Frank's spirit is sealed within the filmstrip of Murder Mill itself using the camera that freed him. The survivors decide to split the film up so Frank can never return.

In the years since, Augustine plotted to free Frank from the film and complete her original ritual to summon the Entity. Using the power of her horologium to explore other worlds in the omniverse, Augustine began collecting all the possible versions of the Murder Mill film that could exist, each of them housing enough of Frank's spirit that put together would allow him to manifest. At Gerant Manor in 2024, Frank was set free from the film and Augustine unleashed him upon Madison, Stan, an older Linda, and an alternate version of Sam. Now returned to life but as a literal monster, Frank took on the moniker of The Champion and used his new powers to kill and absorb one of the group to return to full strength. He hunted the remaining survivors through the Manor, potentially killing them, before joining Augustine outside. With the Entity successfully summoned and on the cusp of devouring the world itself, Frank suddenly betrayed Augustine and struck her down, allowing the Entity to claim her soul and the other offerings that were (possibly) alongside her. Frank himself later awakens within a dark forest, a part of the Entity's realm. As he watches a campfire of survivors from afar, he roars in triumph at having become of the Entity's newest killers and prepares to enter the Trials.

Appearance[]

Human[]

When alive, Frank appeared as a slightly aged adult man with a receding hairline, with his frame being of an average build but tall. His clothes consisted an apron, cargo pants and shoes as part of his uniform working at the mill. He also wore numerous chains around his torso, hooked into his belt. Frank wore a work glove on his left hand, leaving other free and exposed in order to wield his weapon whenever he donned his killer persona.
As a killer, Frank's most noticeable feature was his welding mask, which he had altered to expose his mouth below the nose while parted into long sharp spikes at the sides, emulating sharp teeth and tusks in appearance.

Revival as a ghost and as The champion[]

After being set free in 2024, Frank's appearance has become monstrous. His signature welding mask has been removed above the nose, exposing pale piercing eyes and equally pale rotten skin. His lower jaw has been transformed into a giant gaping toothed maw that stretches down the front of his entire torso to just above his stomach. His body appears to be pierced all over from the inside by pieces of metal shrapnel, representing his original death at the mill.

He still wears the remains of his old uniform from the waist down, including the tattered remnants of his apron, though many parts of it appear to have fused into his skin to represent the heat of the furnace he fell into. The numerous weapons Frank constructed for use in his original murders hang from chains around his waist, and he keeps his weapon embedded within his own torso, only pulling it out when necessary.

Personality[]

Though little of Frank's personality is shown during his physical appearances, collectibles found during the course of the game show that Augustine's manipulations preyed on a mind that was already psychologically vulnerable due to a difficult and disturbed upbringing by his grandmother. Believing that his eventual killings were because of a higher purpose and justified, Frank showed a near religious and fanatical loyalty to the ideals of the Black Vale and the Entity itself.
