Frankie Perello is a minor antagonist of the 2006 movie Running Scared.
He was portrayed by Arthur J. Nascarella who also played Carlo Gervasi in The Sopranos and Frank Lagonda in Cop Land.
Biography[]
Frankie is the head of the Italian mob. He wants to make a deal about a gasoline with the Russian mobster Ivan Yugorsky. However, a problem ensues, as his nephew Anzor Yugorsky got shot by his adoptive son Oleg. Informed on this by Ivan, he assures him that he will send his crew on the street to seek Oleg. Frankie convokes his men including his son Tommy in an Arlington’s Diner to announce the news. One of his men, Joey Gazelle, proposes to put a stop on Anzor’ activities, but Perello refuses to do something, as he doesn’t want to strain his relations with Ivan.
He is later seen in a hockey’s area, with the Russian mob and his crew. They bring Oleg and Joey. They suspect Joey to have given the gun to Oleg to shoot Anzor. The interrogation goes wrong and Joey is tortured. To stop it, Joey lies by incriminating Frankie, telling him that he used Oleg to send a message because he didn't like someone producing meth on his territory. Frankie denies everything, but Gazelle claims the gun came from Tommy. Oleg confirms Joey's version, saying that he was told if he shot Anzor, he would make the Italians happy. Tommy, enraged, is baited and prepares to kill Joey, despite Frankie's insistence not to fall into the trap, and is killed by Tommy.
A shootout ensues. Frankie and Ivan draw their pistols to shoot each other, but they are shocked to find that their magazines are empty. Wanting each to have a larger caliber gun to kill the other, they fight against each other. Ivan rips Frankie's ear off, but Frankie shoots the Russian mobster. He then goes to kill Joey to avenge his son and he discovers that his man is none other than an undercover FBI agent. As he is about to fire, Perello hears a noise. He turns around and sees Oleg pointing his gun at him. He laughs at him, asking what he plans to do with that gun. Taking advantage of the distraction, Joey trips him and shoots him in the head.
Personality[]
Perello is a non-sense and pragmatic mobster, as he is willing to make a deal with mobsters of usually rivals clans, like he did with Ivan, if that can make him earn money. Like all crime lords, he has a ruthless side and doesn't hesitate to murder anyone who opposes, including children.
However, he is affable enough when not threatened, as he was really friendly and supportive of Gazelle before the bullet incident, and also genuinely cares for his son, becoming bent on revenge when he realizes Joey killed him.
