Generalfeldmarschall Franz Vahlen is the main antagonist in the video game Sniper Elite 3.
He is voiced by Klemens Koehring.
Biography[]
Generalfeldmarschall Franz Vahlen was a First World War veteran and Nazi officer serving in North Africa where he was in charge of a top secret project code-named Project Seuche. Project Seuche was a project to build a supertank codenamed Ratte, which Vahlen planed to use to conquer Europe when the Afrika Korps win in North Africa. Some of his officers discovered this and steal his diary which holds details of his plans. They send it by courier to Hitler himself, to tell him of Vahlens betrayal. Unfortunately for them the courier is intercepted by the NID sniper Karl Fairburne, who has been sent to track down and assassinate Vahlen. When Fairburne tracks him down to the complex where the Ratte prototype is being built, he manages to destroy the tank. Vahlen gets trapped under debris and pleads for Karl to free him. Karl takes Vahlen's Luger, and says that the difference between them is that he remember's everyone he kills, before executing Vahlen at point blank range.
Personality[]
Vahlen was a ruthless officer whos dream of completing Project Seuche cost the lives of many people, including his own men. In a report by a German soldier, Vahlen had thrown a man into the canyon after he took too long with a track link as well as threaten his own men with cutting rations if they can't finish their work on schedule. He is also guilty of torturing and executing spies and prisoners at his outposts at Fort Rifugio and Pont du Fahs Airfield. Vahlen has expressed his hatred towards Hitler and much of the Nazi High Command in Berlin in his journal and planned to use the Ratte against them.
Vahlen is highly decorated officer of the German Army and veteran of the Great War, winning the Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross with Oak Leaves and Swords and obtaining the rank of Generalfeldmarschall.
